I am really interested in hearing your stuff, as I am training to be a

Certifed Nurse Midwife and am in Nursing School now, and am a Doula.

[OBnurses] A midwife

All my women have my home phone number so you tend to get weird phone calls

at all times of day and night, in saying that my women are pretty good and

because we get to know each other they don't ring too often.

Thats a brief outline of the job but I am happy to post more if anyone is

interested but I don't want to bore you

Lots of love

Diane

Just because you're paranoid, It doesn't mean they're not out to get you !!

Hi Mama, Showing my ignorance totally, a doula is the american equivalent to

a midwife isn't it ? You are " with woman " which is what midwife apparently

means, but I would be fascinated to hear more and I love to hear about how

you do things in the US

Lots of love

Hi Diane:)

No! Not at all! Doula's are not an equivilant to a midwife at all! Doula's

provide emotional, physical, and sometimes spirital support for the birthing

mother and her partner. We act as a liasion between the birthing mother and

the staff if needed. However, we never make a decision for a birthing

mother. We encourage our clients to be educated, empowered, and

knowledgable consumers. We don't perform any sort of clinical tasks on our

clients. Montirices do that, and I am qualified as a Montrice as well. As

a Montrice I can take all vitals, and perform VE's.

I have such a long way to go to be a midwife!

Thanks:)

Marna!

I guess that you are asking Mama, re her doula fee. Here in the UK all

midwive care is free to the patients on the NHS

Oh Diane! I thought they were asking you!

My Doula fee is between 350-500.00 ( I work on a sliding fee scale ) and I

will do pro bono work for those that have zero money, as I believe it's

every womans right to have a Doula.

If I do postpartum care, I charge more.

But I am not a midwife at all! I have a long long way to go!

Diane,

I told my midwife friend I work with about you on the loop here. She was

anxiously awaiting the answer to the tea and toast question saying... " well of

course she does Jan " . Seems as if she was right! I think the Americans can

take a lesson from this niceity.
