Garett had evals in May too...they changed his dx to autism from

PDD-NOS. His IQ score was 108, and his preacademic skills are at a 5

year 8 month level (he's 4 years 10 months). His social/adaptive skills

are at a 2 year level though. Yet I can't get the school to see that he

needs to be in a regular preschool setting with kids without

disabilities/delays with a para to help him learn to interpret the

social cues of the other kids. Its so common sense. The lady who cuts

my hair even caught on that a child can learn social skills in a

classroom of other kids who also need to work on social skills. His

behavior specialist observed him at school and said his social skills

shine compared to the other kids he spends his time with (and he's

almost three years behind!) My problem is that if the school doesn't

provide it, we are in such a rural area that there is not a private

preschool program that will take him because of his disability (I know,

ADA but if you have to force them to take your child do you want your

child in that program?)

My older child (ADHD/SID/?) was dx with a learning disability via evals

at the school, yet they don't think they need to provide any

accomodations for him as " he seems to be doing ok " . They don't see the

child who comes home unable to function because of the effort it takes

to hold it together all day and perform at the level he does. So of

course we're the problem because he only has these issues at home.....

I didn't sign up to play this game...I want to quit...I never would but

some days sure seem more than I can handle...
