Hi Rebekah,

It is nice to know like minded people sort of close by. Do you have a source for raw milk or do you perhaps have a farm with your very own animals?

I'm hoping that sometime in the not to distant future we may have enough interest to start a WAPF chapter in this area.

I live in Benton City, WA, which is about 1.5 hours away from Yakima. Hello ,

Yes, we have our own dairy goats, though only one is producing right

now. Next spring though, we should be swimming in milk. :-) We

don't have a way to separate the cream yet though, and are wondering

if there is a source for raw cream in the area. Haven't found one

yet.

Yes, I would just love to start a WAPF chapter around here, but I

don't know if I am up for it or not. Do you know what all is

entailed in that?

Yes, I have read Nutrition and Physical Degeneration and have been

using NT type foods/cooking for a couple years, but I still am just

not sure what sort of organizing and activities and how often, etc.

would be involved in being a chapter leader.

Maybe I will search yahoo groups and find the email list for the

chapter leaders and see if I can join as a potential leader. :-)

Rebekah

Guess it's time for me to butt in. I'm a chapter leader, have been for a while. Also a farmer, been that longer but not by much. There's not a whole lot of time for other things and I am pretty much unreliable as animal emergency situations are always a priority. Soooo I don't do many of the things other chapter leaders do. But here's what I do and have done:

1. Circulated and still circulate a petition to make it legal for farmers to sell their products from the farm, not just dairy.

2. Talk and talk and talk to folks at craft fairs where I go to demonstrate lye soap making (and sell soap made from lye, lard and water). Always have handouts available for those interested in "getting back to basics."

3. Take the goats here and there. Let people milk, bottle feed a baby goat and talk about raw goat milk. Charts, etc with me as well as handout. Used to hand out samples of goat cheese but the Dept of Ag in TN forbids giving away raw dairy so I'm out of luck on that one anymore.

4. Point people in the right direction to find the food they want and need.

All this is really not that much and fits right in with the rest of what I'm doing. For the soap I've got the big black kettle and there's always somebody who comments on how "folks used to fry in lard" and I can come back with a big grin and tell them that some folks still do and it's the best fried chicken in the world! You just need an opening, grab it and get them talking and remembering how good g'ma baked pies were and what she used for the crust... It might get a few thinking, some thinking I'm nuts for sure, but others thinking about what they are eating and how they are feeling.

Enough of my ramble,

Belinda

Hello , I am curious about the speaking engagements around

town. Where do you give speaches and what about? Is it common to

have to give speaches as a WAPF leader?

I give speeches only because I want to. I speak at our local health

food stores and soon at a University. You aren't required to give

lectures as a WAPF leader, it's all up to you, what you want to make

it. If I didn't let people know that I lecture, then I wouldn't be

asked to. Don't worry, if you're not a public speaker, you do not have

to market yourself that way. Not at all.

Hope that helps?

Yes, it helps. Isn't there a list for WAPF leaders? Do you have to

already be a leader to be on it? I am just wanting to get more

details about stuff WAPF chapters do.

Yes, you can look at the WAPF chapter leaders by going to

www.realmilk.com and clicking on local chapters. Some of us are

farmers, some are scientists, some are pre-med students, some are

doctors, and some are consumers. It's really a mixed bag. But there

is more to WAPF than just raw dairy. We promote all organic foods,

pasture-fed livestock, healing arts, etc. If you go to

www.westonaprice.org you can get a better idea of everything that WAPF

is all about. To become a chapter leader look at this link:

http://www.westonaprice.org/local_chapters/local_chapters.html. This

should tell you exactly what you need to know. You can also contact Sally

Fallon at westonaprice@....

I was thinking of an email list for discussion like this one, except

about WAPF chapter leading.

OH! Yes, Rebekah, now I understand. Yes, there is a WAPF chapter

leader chat list, like this raw dairy one, but they really do prefer

that you already be a leader I think. But you could write to Suze

Fisher, the list creator and ask her what the rules might be, if you

could eavesdrop to learn more. Maybe it would be okay--not sure. Her

email is s.fisher22@....

Belinda! I didn't know you were still circulating that petition!

That's great! It is the same as the one at

www.tennesseansforrawmilk.com that Lallement came up with, right?

You could click over and check under Our Goals. If so, I would love to

know how far you've gotten with it. What I am doing with my signatures

is rallying the people who signed who are in specific counties. The

counties are the ones that have Ag. committee members as their

representatives. That way, it is specific to the Ag. committee and not

just everyone calling from everywhere. That's how the honeybee people

got their non-pasteurization law passed--they burned up the phone lines

in January for the March or April session. In the 2005 legislative

session, we also need to present that petition to the Ag. committee

when they meet to pass the bill out of committee and onto the house and

senate. If you have a large number of folks on your petition, I could

contact them if you would like me to. It would be good to have

everyone call that can in those counties. I have another farmer

circulating that petition and another WAPF chapter leader in TN named

Laurel Crosby. I can't believe you are still circulating that

petition. That is so great.

, as you see Yahoo truncates all e-mail addies. I think the way

to get around it is to type like this: " myname at hotmail dot com " .

That also prevents most of the spam robots from picking up the address

on their random searches of websites and automatically adding it to

their lists.
