One reason to chose a baby to illustrate what the Work is because a baby is= completely real. Babies do not engage in guile, in pretense, in self- justification or in self-deception. We know the baby is in distress because the baby cries. That is reality. Your example, zenbear, is so far from reality that it is crazy-making. It w= ill drive those who believe it insane. If you cannot trust your own inner feelings, physical and emotional, then there is nothing you can trust. The Work helps= us examine them for truth, yes. And truth is what we are supposed to find. =
Guest guest
> It might be useful to distinguish between pain and suffering. Pain is > just a sensation generated by the body. Suffering is caused by the > stories we add to that basic sensation. Okay, Zenbear, this makes a lot more sense than your last post. Yes, we do have pain. That is truth. We increase our suffering by adding false stories to it. That is truth as well. As an aside, has anyone read " The Assault? " When I told my daughter about The Work, she told me about this story. It takes place in Nazi Poland, I believe, and is about the incredible sufferings of one boy. His family is murdered, his house burned, and so on, because someone had left the body of a Nazi informer in front of his house. And the end, he found out the real story of why that happened, and it changed his understanding of everything.
Guest guest
Thank you ! And thanks to all the others who has responded to my question. Some of the things you have been writing I don´t understand, believe or agree with. But one thing you all helped me to discover is that I really, really don´t know. Some of you seem to be so dedicated to this. Whatever anyone here in the group says you have an explaination or an answer to it that sounds just like something you could have read in ´s book. Isn´t there anything you don´t know? Or is it just how you become when you have been doing the work long enough? Please God, don´t let me ever believe I know everything. I like to say " I don´t know " sometimes. Is it true that no one have ever hurt anyone but themselves? I don´t know! > > " Is the baby´s suffering its own resposibility?
