Guest guest
Hello! I am a 24 year old woman diagnosed with CMT type 2 about one year ago, although I had been suspecting the problem for many years prior to diagnosis. I have two uncles with CMT as well, each with very different presentations and severity. I have a loss of vocal cord function and weakened diaphragm, both of which affect my daily life more severely than my weak feet and hands. I do all that I can to stay informed and to be proactive about this disease. I also have fantastic medical insurance, which allows me to pursue care without too much concern for cost. Right now I visit a physical therapist every two weeks and perform strengthening exercises at home every day to protect my feet and ankles. I wear orthotics to help reduce some of the foot pain, but no AFOs or ankle supports yet. I also work with a massage therapist once a month, which has GREATLY reduced the pain in my feet and hips, not to mention the stress relief. I also try to maintain my general health and take a multivitamin daily. My personal feelings fluctuate daily from acceptance to fear to anger to frustration. I am looking forward to gathering information on personal and medical strategies from you folks and for sharing anything that I can.
