Hi Tessie,

I have ringing in my ears. My mom had poor hearing as well.

I noticed the ringing start at the same time as I developed a bizarre

hand thing happening. The hand thing was tested as athritis with the

blood work which was negative. The ear ringing I never discussed with

my doctor. In 1997 I had a very comprehensive hearing test and they

said that my hearing was impaired in the high and low registers, and we

thought it was probably due to my love of standing in front of the big

speaker stacks at night clubs and my working with bands in 1992-3.

The more I read about CMT the more I think in the literature there

could be a link. But I have not brought this up with a doctor. I

think that given my bad behaviour in the past that it is hard to decide

what is causing it. And I am not taking medicine for it - I don't

really want any pills in me insofar as I can avoid it.

That is my experience. Tell your son not to play an iPod too loud - it

makes my ears ring worse!

I don't have CMT; my husband does. I have terrible ringing in my ears; he

doesn't. The doctor said it's from nerve damage, and that lots of people have

it. I have only been to two non-classical concerts in my life. I have learned

to live with it, so I don't notice it most of the time. I have read that there

are devices they can put in the ear to block the sound, and that biofeedback can

be used. In LA the House Clinic probably is a good place to go for ear problems.
