Welcome. I recently joined the group myself for very much the same reason.

I've already received offers of help and will pass on any interesting info I

receive as well.

We Have a new Teacher!

Hi Everyone,

We have a new teacher in our family! It is so great to see these teachers get

involved with their students! Please help me welcome her.

Welcome!!! Educating a child with MDS is an interesting journey!! I homeschool

my son, and he proves to be quite a challenge, yet a surprise too!! I have

found that math is difficult with him, however, he reads at an age appropriate

level. This was surprising to his speech therapist. If your student has

troubles with crossing the midline, have him play something like golf. It

worked with us.

Looking forward to your experiences and input too!!

Welcome,

I also joined a while back as I have a little girl with mds in my

recepton(age4-5) class (UK). She is repeating another year in

reception as the curriculum is more appropriate to her needs (and

she is one of the very youngest in her year group in school).

Obviously, each child is different, mds or not, and their specific

needs will dicatate the curriculum. I have found that setting up

lots of small group games/ interaction have helped develop social

skills. Also following a language programme daily with input my the

speech and language therapist along with very good home school work,

and input from her mum,has enabled the little girl to move on from

signing using Makaton and speaking 10 or so words last September, to

speaking in up to 5 word phrases when school broke up in July.
