Guest guest
, That is fantastic! You know, I felt like it took forever for to start communicating verbally and now that he has it is so nice to have conversations with him. I treasure every one and you will, too! Maureen, mother to Tyler, 11 and , 7 (MDS) Please allow me to beam a little As you know, I do not have a child with MDS. I joined this group b/c I have a student with MDS. However, my almost-three-year-old daughter Molly is Deaf, which has its own set of issues. Molly was diagnosed at birth as having severe to profound deafness in both ears. As a result, she was fitted with hearing aids when she was a couple of months old, and this past March she received a cochlear implant. She has received speech therapy/aural rehabilitation almost from day one. She has produced a few words here and there, but is nowhere NEAR talking like a typical three-year-old. We've been learning sign language and teaching it to her, but that's moving at it's own pace, as well. The past few days, though, Molly has started to say, " eat, eat " when she is hungry! At first, I thought she was just making noises (she's nowhere near being mute; she just does not have a lot of WORDS in her repertoire of sounds). BUT, I began to notice that as she was saying, " eat, eat, " she was pushing me to get out of my chair. When I would get up, she would follow me to the kitchen and to her high chair! It's SO EXCITING to know that she is communicating WHAT she wants/needs rather than just crying or fussing to let me know she wants/needs SOMETHING! Thank you for letting me share my joy at this accomplishment.
