Guest guest
Sometimes the hardest thing to hear and to accept is a compliment. We tend to be guarded, possibly because we have been hurt by words in the past. We fight the urge to believe the praise;it simply can't be true. The truth is compliments should be embraced and welcomed. They're an intangible gift, aconfirmation of a job well done. Others may see great changes happening to you and they want to let you know. Respond with a smile and a simplethank you. You deserve to be flattered, so accept it, and enjoy it! LAUGHTER IS CHEAP MEDICINE I know a couple who works in the pharmaceutical industry. He is asales representative and she is a pharmacist. When asked what they dofor a living, he is quick to reply, "She makes drugs and I sell them." I believe it was Lord Byron who said, "Always laugh when you can. Itis cheap medicine." And they're finding that to be true - quiteliterally. A woman diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis wrote to me and talkedabout how painful the disease had become. Debra said that no drugswould touch the devastating pain. "At times I prayed to die because Idid not think I could go on this way," she said. But in two and a halfyears she weaned herself from most of her medication, which hadreached a high of 21 pills a day. This is how she did it. "I began seeing a doctor who gave me the most important prescriptionthat I ever could have received," she said. "He excused himself fromthe room. I watched him walking back and forth in the hall; he seemedto be in deep though t." The doctor came back in with this prescription: he told Debra to getsome funny movies and to begin laughing. If she didn't feel likelaughing, then she should smile. If she didn't feel like smiling, sheshould smile anyway! He said that it would increase endorphins in herbrain and help with her pain. She did just as he suggested. She smiled constantly. Her childrenteased her about the fake smile, but she told them that it was goingto get rid of her pain. And it did. Of course, not all of her pain isgone, but her newly acquired habit of laughing and smiling has made itmanageable without all of the drugs. Today, Debra is never seen without her smile. She says that she wouldnot even feel normal without it. Laughter really is cheap medicine. And it's a prescription you canfill right now. Steve Goodier You live in a beautiful world. The more you appreciate and enjoy that beauty, the more beautiful it becomes. Beauty is impossible to define and, at the same time, impossible to ignore. You know what it is without having to learn. Beauty is much more than mere physical appearance. In fact, magnificent beauty can often be found in what appears to be plain and ordinary, when you explore it deeply enough. Beauty can awe, inspire and astonish. Beauty can energize your spirit in ways that nothing else can. One of the nicest things you can do for yourself is to give yourself the time and space to simply take in the beauty that is around you. Beauty asks nothing more than to be treasured, and when you let yourself experience it, beauty has much to give. There is beauty stretching out in all directions. Dive deeply into it, and it will make you more. Ralph Marston Dear Readers, " Morning Coffee " is a labor of love and meant to be shared with others to spread encouragement and inspiration.
