Guest guest
, you never know having brothers or sisters could help too. Guest guest
CONGRATULATIONS-CONGRATULATIONS-CONGRATULATIONS! I could NOT believe what I read, I was laughing so hard all 3 of the girls stopped playing, looked at me and each other, and started laughing themselves! There is a boy Christian who is so very autistic at church (although his mother says he definitely is not autistic, some enzyme issue at birth, but scrapes his hands against the floor, spins things, toe walks, didn't talk until 4, etc) and he is the 3rd child, there is one younger. His mother told me having a younger child has been so good for him. She says it's as if he saw his little sister doing things and immediately tried doing them. Also, Allie had a little rocky start, but is very loving and gentle toward her baby sister now. I also read a study on larger families and said that autistics in larger families often do better socially because of the constant interaction. It also seems that Allie's language skills are increasing as Dinah does her sounds. Any ah-goo brings Allie running to her, mimicking her sounds. It is hard, but like the previous advice, get your support areas arranged now. It might also be a good time to find some trusted people who could spend some time with while you are having the babies. Those people can also help with after the babies arrive. Just breathe, you've got time to get it all straight. I wish you lived nearby, I'd love to help! Guest guest
I agree with on that. If it weren't for Dinah I would so be wallowing in Allie's business. Since Dinah I've seen that me not being so preoccupied with her has allowed her to be a kid, not my baby. She's 4 now and I can see her growing and maturing mentally. She just loves being a big sister and seems to take it with joy. I don't know if she would be so successful with independent things were it not for her little sister getting me off her back. Guest guest
Thanks, Debi. I wish you lived nearby too, since you're the first one to volunteer to help! Guest guest
I'm trying to think of ways I tried to prepare Allie for her sister. One thing is I took my pregnancy books and showed the pictures of the baby drawn inside the mother's belly to show her. I really liked the book with the actual photos of the babies inside the womb, I think it's " A Child Is Born. " I wanted her to understand what was going on inside my belly. A Baby Story is also a great show to help her understand, Allie benefits greatly from videos. I also sat and rocked her at night while telling her exactly what would happen, how I would go to the hospital, have the baby come out of my belly, and bring her home to be her little sister. I would always tell her how much I love her and no matter how many babies I had she would always be my special middle baby. I also tried to get her to look at other babies at church and the like. Her therapists would give her baby dolls and call them Dinah's name and do discrete trials with feeding, changing, etc to help her know how to care for baby sister Dinah. Another thing I did was get the furniture set up way in advance. I figured the more we could get the house set up like it would be when Dinah arrived, the more she'd have time to adjust before Dinah got here. She also stayed the night at my MIL more often, to help her get used to staying there while I was in the hospital. I also began letting Craig take her more places and do more things with her at home, like give her a bath and change her clothes. She didn't like it a lot at first, but I did not want her to associate these changes with the baby. The final thing I did, which is so hard for me, is let her play with Dinah's stuff all she wanted. I hated her jumping in the crib with nasty hands and feet but never said a word to her. I wanted her to feel full access to the stuff. A big problem we had was her getting in the infant swing and walker. She STILL gets in the walker, it's the funniest thing to see a 4 yr old in a walker, walking around the room! Well, I hope this helps, I'm going to bed or I'll sit here and jabber about having a baby all night! Debi

Guest guest
Hi , Just wanted to add my congratulations. I know that at this very moment the future must seem very daunting, but I think you are probably a stronger person than you even know. Looking on the positive side - that will mean 3 additional people to love and help later in life which has to be a very good thing. Guest guest
If I remember right s has autism due to birth trauma. I cant remember the details but it had nothing to do with shots or genetics. I feel the babies be NT and healthy. AS long as she does not let stress get in her way. I had PDD first her birth was perfect no complications but I didnt know she had toomany problems so then we had NT and that is when I realized had severe problems but I always blamed it on the little bit of alcohol I drank. So with I had nothing then got pg with I had nothing and has moderate autism worse then s Yet for some odd reason I wished I could have another baby LOLOLOL. I am not normal huh We caught yesterday in her grandmothers bathroom smoking cigarettes. We do not smoke inmy house but my mom is a heavy smoker. Charlene -- Re: How will I survive this? , after I posted the last one I started thinking about the fear of having another child who might develop autism. Since Dinah is doing so well, I've kind of forgotten all those fears that seem to torment us late in the night. But thinking about you I began to remember it. I am sure that having an only child with ASD makes it seem more likely that your babies will be autistic. I was fortunate to have an NT child before my Allie Kat blessed us with her presence, so I figured I at least had a 50/50 shot at a healthy child. Just have faith that The Big Guy upstairs knows everything. I'm sure you have wondered " why me, after all I have to do for my little one " but He has a plan for you, your hubby, and especially . There is a song by Avalon, " The dreams I dream for you are deeper than the ones you're clinging to, more precious than the finest things you do, truer than the treasures you pursue. Pick up the cup I offer, and drink deeply of the dreams I dream for you. " Another part of the song says, " You've read one page, I know the story. " Right now you are like in the first paragraph of the second page, lol. In a few years you'll be able to look back and see how wonderful He has written the chapter of your book about the births of your babies. Since He is The Master Writer, it will be a chapter filled with laughing, crying, hoping, dispair, and triumph. It will be the best book you've ever read! Just know that no matter how scared you get it's gonna be okay. Debi

Guest guest
, along with the local newspaper idea, you could post something on Schafer Report about needing some assistance in your area. From all the autism statistics I've read about in Cali, I would think there would be a good support group nearby. Debi
Guest guest
That's true, Charlene. was in severe fetal distress in the birth canal and was blue for quite some time. The lack of oxygen caused damage to her frontal and temporal lobes. My goal is to prevent that from happening again, but with triplets they will quite likely be preemie, but our hospital is very progressive and my father was surgical chief of staff, so you KNOW they will be taking care of me! >         If I remember right s has autism due to birth > trauma.  I > cant remember the details but it had nothing to do with shots or > genetics. >  I feel the babies be NT and healthy.  AS long as she does not let > stress > get in her way. >         I had PDD first her birth was perfect no > complications but > I didnt know she had toomany problems so then we had NT and that > is > when I realized had severe problems but I always blamed it on > the > little bit of alcohol I drank.   So with I had nothing then got > pg > with I had nothing and has moderate autism worse then > s >     Yet for some odd reason I wished I could have another baby > LOLOLOL.  > I am not normal huh >         We caught yesterday in her grandmothers bathroom > smoking > cigarettes.     We do not smoke inmy house but my mom is a heavy > smoker. >              Charlene > > -- Re: How will I survive this? > > , after I posted the last one I started thinking about the fear > of having another child who might develop autism. Guest guest
, Sorry it took me so long to post, but I work nights, and I sleep the morning away. My dh takes care of the girls while mama is in a coma! Congrats on the triple blessing! I know this is a long way down the road, but maybe when the trips start talking it will help your daughter with her verbal skills. My youngest daughter is 3 yrs. old, and I swear that it has helped le (PDD-7yrs. old) communicate better. They have conversations, arguments (oy!) and everything. So keep the faith, God knows what he is doing even if we don't. Hugs from Texas, Sara P.S. since a lot of people have quotations at the end of their posts, here's mine Life is like a big fan, and sometimes the ca-ca hits it.-Robin
Guest guest
To make a long story short I went to Rockhampton Australia with the air national guard and a woman I went with over there alot higher rank then I tried to get me a IUD. I refused and she said you dont need no more children well she had 5 and I only had 2. Anyway this made me want more all the more so when I got back to Alaska I got pg right away. Then a neighbor wanted me to get an abortion since had problems and I refused. Then I went to Colorado with extended family for two months until he got transfered to NEw Jersey. During those two months were the worst. I heard rude comments like you cant even take care of the two you have now and you want another one? You need a tubal ligation I got a tubal igation and I am happy. I only take care of what I can handle. Then in my 8th month drove to NJ with my husband. The military lied to us as usual and there was no base housing available. We had $4000 in cash on us and still couldnt find a rental unless we went clear to philly. IT was xmas time and I slipped into a deep depression. The doctor in NJ met me for the first time dec 9th 1997 I gave birth dec 16 and got a pomeroy style tubal ligation dec 17,1997. About 15 months later I got a reversal. It was prejudish so I got on a web site called blessed arrows and found a cheap one. Believe me I know how stress can and will affect someone especially being pregnant that is why I dont want you stressed!!!! is Pdd mild autism. She feels she is 35 years old and she is only 10. Hey she is the same age as you were when you used to get into your dads cigaretts LOL Charlene -- Re: How will I survive this?
