Guest guest
Can't you just switch to paying Kaiser out of pocket, and keep all the current benefits? I know there was a time when we paid out of pocket for our Kaiser coverage, but this was when was an infant, and may not have had his MDS diagnosis yet. He did however have the Hirschprung's diagnosis...and had his 1st surgery at UCLA with Medi-Cal, and we ended up having to get all his medical records and taking them to Kaiser, because we'd switched and the Kaiser surgeons had to take over and do the last two surgeries. There was never an issue of a " preexisting condition " or anything of that nature... I've always had good experiences with Kaiser...if youre happy with them, maybe you could stay with them~ I just know its getting soooo expensive to pay out of pocket for health insurance! yikes! ~ANGEL~ Mom to 11 Mosaic Down Syndrome/Hirschsprung's Disease Lance 15, Tyler 12, 9 Jaeda 8 & Shayne
Guest guest
Samya, Typically when you change jobs, you have a " grace " period when you are a new hire. Pre-existing conditions are essentially a non-issue. When your husband is interviewing, have him check out the benifits and qualifications. Good luck! Enjoy your time being a stay at homer. It is more challenging, at times, than working, but with a better benifit package!! Irene mom to Nat 10 MDS, Luke8, Emilia 5, Lilly 3, and Isaac 6 mo samyalobue wrote: Hi everyone! Hope all is well with everybody. I have to ask your advise on something that is weighing heavy on my mind. It has to do with medical insurance. When I was pregnant, my family was covered through my job's insurance which was Blue Shield. Because of doctor's orders, I had to go on bed rest and, although, we had the option of going on Cobra after a while off of work it was out of the question because of the enromous expense to cover us all. I now amy a stay home mom. Luckily my husband had us also covered under his health insurance policy, Kaiser Permenente, through his job. He has been thinking of leaving his job for another higher paying job. Now, I understand that if it is through a group policy through work they have to accept my daughter's MDS pre-existing condition. But, if for whatever reason, we look into purchacing our own policy we run the risk (a huge risk) that Olivia wouldn't be covered because of the MDS diagnosis. Olivia already is covered for Early Intervention services and beyond through the Golden Gate Regional Center in our area. The doctor made it so that she is covered for the rest of her life for all therapies be it physical, social or emotional. But as far as medical issues, what happens if we find ourselves uncovered. I guess that our social worker through the regional center would be able to lead us in the right direction, but I want to know if there are alternatives to being insured other than MediCal(Medicaid). I don't want MediCal. Does anybody know of any private insurance companies that deal with insuring people with pre-existing conditions. Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
I work for Kaiser in Oregon and they do except pre-existing conditions. When I was pregnant with my 8 yr old we switched to Kaiser when I was 6 mo pregnant and there was never a problem, they covered everything. It's a great place to work and also awesome insurance. Guest guest
Hi, MDS is something a person is born with. From what I have learned an insurance company cannot refuse or deny coverage to someone if you are born with a genetic disorder. a pre existing condition occurs after birth. MDS is something unfortunately diagnosed late, but still existed at birth even if it was not detected.
