Wow, if you didn't know, then who did???? Do you know if the other ASA

chapters knew about it? FEAT-Houston didn't know anything about it either.

I don't think Family to Family knew anything either.

How can a national organization roll into town and start raising local

community dollars and not even consult the community leaders about where

it's going to be spent? Someone didn't do their homework-either that or all

this talk about " serving the community " goes out the window when there's big

money on the line.

Money talks and integrity walks.

I would love to know more as well. As a chapter of the Autism Society of

America that has an extensive network in Houston, I was not even informed of

any meetings that took place in Houston... or invited to be a part of any

plans once in Houston, etc -- for our chapter to partner with them on.... So

apparantely it is a big secret that is not well kept. I mean that

respectively - but with concern because I would think the area ASA Chapters

would be in the loop somehow... Our chapter would love to be involved, I

think we could do good things...

With sorta apologies to anyone from or benefitting from Avondale House --- I

have never even heard of them at any Resource Fairs or community projects.

If they are serving the population of Autism to the degree worthy of such

millions - then one would think one would hear more of them and all these

opportunities for children with autism.

I think that there are many other avenues to go through with funding.

Avenues that promote community involvement for individuals with autism

versus residential housing - which is about all I know that Avondale

does.....

I do encourage folks to ask honest questions because this is a big deal.

There are so many autism organizations that serve families with autism in

community settings, therapy, educational, treatment, community involvement,

etc ---

I just cannot believe Avondale was the only consideration or choice....

My 2 cents,

Does anyone out there know anything about Easter Seals coming to Houston and

how they're connected with Avondale House. I've never even heard of Avondale

House. How did they get chosen to be a partner? Were any parents consulted?

I heard that Avondale House is going to be the main recipient of any money

raised through the Houston Tackles Autism campaign sponsored by the Texans.

Is any of this true? would love to know more.

I dunno.... I found out from a friend who was sure I knew about it because I'm

with ASA.... She invited me to attend a fundraiser meeting but I couldn't go...

I don't know if the other chapters knew - I have e-mailed but haven't heard

back.

Our chapter is planning our October 2008 Conference and I would like to talk

to someone from Easter Seals/Houston about maybe being a speaker about plans for

Houston, but I don't know who to ask... Having a booth, etc....

Sincerely,
