One Mission

Autism One

Chicago, May 21-25, 2008

Every child around the world touched by autism deserves the very real

hope for recovery. Autism One, a member of the Autism Collaboration

(http://www.autism.org <http://www.autism.org/>), the most

experienced collective body of autism organizations worldwide

covering all aspects of the spectrum, joins in celebrating the

message that & ldquo;autism is treatable and recovery is

possible. & rdquo;

The Autism One 2008 Conference will bring together the most recent

research and treatments in the most crucial biomedical areas

underlying the potential for children & rsquo;s recovery:

v Oxidative stress

v Toxic burden and detoxification

v Immunological dysregulation and autoimmune activity

v Metabolic profiles, including methylation capacity and

transsulfation

Among the many esteemed doctors and researchers at Autism One 2008,

you will hear:

Derrick MacFabe, MD; Mark Noble, PhD; , PhD; Jill

, PhD; Martha Herbert, MD, PhD; Woody McGinnis, MD;

Walsh, PhD; Wakefield, MD; Bradstreet, MD;

Bock, MD; Boyd Haley, PhD; Deth, PhD; Arthur Krigsman, MD;

Casanova, MD; Neubrander, MD; Nataf, MD; and

Bransfield, MD.

There is more! Autism One 2008 is very pleased to offer:

v The Defeat Autism Now! Clinician Seminar: THE ONE-DAY CLINICIAN

SEMINAR begins by leading practitioners through the nuts and bolts of

caring for the medical problems of children with autism. Attention is

focused on analyzing case studies and laboratory evaluations

providing clinicians with a deeper appreciation in synthesizing

information from the histories, physical examinations and laboratory

data. AMONG THE TOPICS COVERED are common problems in four areas:

intestinal inflammation, metabolic abnormalities, immune

dysregulation and detoxification impairment. The basic science is

explained utilizing case histories so clinicians can better

understand how impairments in the cycles manifest clinically.

Supplements are covered from a broad perspective to selection for

specific symptoms.

v Advanced Parent Training, with Sudhir Gupta, MD, PhD; Anju Usman,

MD; Megson, MD; and Jeff Bradstreet, MD.

v Amy Yasko, PhD Symposium: Autism is a multi-factorial condition

that includes a genetic, environmental and infectious disease

component. Dr. Yasko will begin by outlining the specific pieces of

the puzzle of autism as she perceives it. She will then look at the

genetic component in greater detail and will give an update on new

biochemical aspects. There will be a Q & A session.

v And presentations covering Education, Adolescence, Advocacy, plus

others!

Among these presentations you will meet friend of Autism Link and

author Bill at his presentation: Illuminating the Family

Dynamic: Moms, Dads, Sibs and Bullies.

Bill will begin with the history of his family and offer advice

and coping strategies to help marriages survive and re-energize. Bill

will discuss the important role that fathers play, financial burdens,

and tips for moms to help their spouses become more involved. Typical

siblings and their experiences are next, followed by a frank

discussion of bullying. Bill will conclude with fallacies of

autism that parents are confronted with every day. Bill is the author

of Breaking Autism's Barriers: A Father's Story and Dangerous

Encounters: Avoiding Perilous Situations with Autism. He is the

recipient of Temple's " End the Victim's Silence " Advocacy Award, and

he has trained hundreds of Emergency Service Responders.

v The First Annual " Autism in Action: Mayoral & Legislative

Partnership & rdquo;/ /Program, which will be held Thursday, May 22 and

Saturday, May 24. The Program is to educate and partner with Illinois

government officials in a manner and on a scale that has never been

attempted before. Government officials whom we depend on to make

decisions that affect our children in a variety of ways get their

information through the same compromised channels that have kept this

country in a constant state of confusion about all things autism. The

Program will cover a variety of topics, including biomedical

treatments, what our community needs now, and how they can help.

Featuring many of the most knowledgeable experts, such as Martha

Herbert, MD, PhD, government officials will receive an in-depth and

complete briefing on the " state of the state of autism " in Illinois.

It & rsquo;s time to change everything. And we will.

Please visit the Autism Link booth in the exhibitor pavilion.

Scholarships are available.

Join Autism One and Autism Link in moving forward together for your

child!

Hope is always real. Recovery is happening.
