My advice when it comes to ANY and ALL weight loss surgeries is to talk to

people actually living with the surgeries. I am thinking that this Dr.

probably does a lot of evaluations for a Doctor who does a specific surgery (and

many of us have heard of a certain Portland Doctor who REALLY pushes the band).

Medical professionals like all people have their thoughts and prejudices.

I went to a lot of support group meetings. Many people are totally happy

with their bands, others have stories of food getting stuck and misery and

pain and the saddest is all the above AND not the weight loss they had hoped.

I think they are a viable option for folks who don't have a lot of weight to

lose.

I have yet to meet a person unhappy with their DS surgery. I am sure that

they exist but I think they are so much the minority that it really speaks

for itself.

Taking supplements IS a big part of this surgery. If that is a potential

problem you should consider it well.

Good Luck in your decision and keep on searching for answers and don't

forget to question authority! in WA

Mark, go ask the doctor what the morbidity rate is for the lap band vs.. the

DS. That will shut her up.

Subject: DS vs. Lap Band

Hello all..I went to my psychological evaluation (im in Portland Or)

and the Dr. told me that with a DS you have to take a lot more pills

than with other procedures, and that between bowel movements and gas

that the smells pretty horrendous. She said that a Lap Band was a

less invasive surgery and I should talk with a local Dr. I've been

thinking about using a local Dr. but the Lap Band remark kind of

caught me off guard, and made me think...can I get any opinions

please...:)

I did a lot of research before I picked the ds . the one thing you have to know

is your self . for me I massively over eat so I knew that if I had the rny I

would stretch out my pouch in no time and as for the lap band I think I would do

the same as well as the fact that the lap band is not a permanent change the

second I lost the wt and the band was opened up I would start gaining my wt back

hope this helps some take care amber

or look on the revision boards and research the failure rate of lap band. it

is comparable to a VBG which is the most unsuccessful surgery available.
