school for the work

Hi to all. I am new to this forum and to the work itself. I've

actually done very little of the work and even that I did in my head

but I sense that there really may be something to this. I am

reaching a state of desperation in my life and though it seems crazy

(at least to me) I am considering attending the school in March. I

would greatly appreciate any information that those of you who have

experienced the school could offer me. Undoubtedly, it is a huge sum

of money and I am put off that the class is not smaller, still, I am

tempted because I know the time has come for a new direction and it

seems to hold out the possibility of this happening.

I would also like to thank all of you for the wonderfully insightful

and astute thoughts that fill this forum and I look forward to

hearing much more of them in the future...Best to all....Harry

Hi, Harry. I can tell you that for me, there most definitely is

" something " to The Work. I wonder why you're considering attending the

School for The Work without ever having written a worksheet. While the

School may be expensive, applying The Work for oneself and finding out

how well it works for you wouldn't cost anything beyond some paper,

some ink, and some time (if you do it in your word processor on your

computer, you don't even have the ink and paper cost. There are

templates for the Judge Your Neighbor and Four Question worksheets in

the Files section of this group :).

My approach has been to assess the effectiveness of the work for

myself by using it as described in 's book (i.e., writing down my

judgements and writing down my responses to the four questions and

turn-around) before considering attending an event. The event I'm

planning on attending is *much* less expensive than The School. I'm

registered for a weekend Intensive.

What about your considering attending the School in March makes it

seem crazy to you? I would invite you to consider that making that

choice might be seen as " high risk " by some -- you'd be putting up a

lot of money to attend an event I hear you have misgivings about. I

know plenty of seemingly sane folks who indulge in high risk behaviors

from time to time. It seems to be something that people do.

Do you indulge in high risk behaviors in other areas of your life?

Perhaps that's just part of who you are. Or perhaps that's an aspect

of your thinking that it might be useful for you to look at. I don't

know. I'm just pointing at what I (think I) see in your message (and

what I think I see in your message says more about me than it does

about you :).

I have not attended the School. The Intensive in Asheville at the end

of February will be my first time to attend one of 's events. So

I'd encourage you to factor that into your thinking when you're

considering all the feedback you've received and deciding what you

want to do. I agree with Heidi that whatever you wind up deciding, it

will be the right thing for you. No mistake.

I have to attend The School for The Work in order to take a new

direction in my life. Is that true?

One of the stories that I like and run often is the one that says I

can only see in others what I see in myself. Conversely, my hunch is

that you can only see wonderfully insightful and astute thoughts here

because you have lots of them yourself, Harry. I'm glad you're here.

Thank you for sharing your situation with us.

tom ~ you occur to me as a wonderful example of the beauty of the work. how

inspiring to hear that you have yet to attend a 'katie' event and are finding

your own freedom through inquiry. of course, no event is really a katie event,

the school for the work is the school of you/me. for me it was a gift to myself

and i learned nothing about katie and much about my own stories (my self) and

the possibility of freedom, should i desire it. i love how you show up here.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my inquiry. Many salient

points were offered and you can be asssured that I will take the time

to consider them as carefully as you did in formulating them. I know

that there is no right answer here, just trying to get a feel for

what the school is actually all about. Sometimes the fear of

demolished hope is stronger even than the fear of losing a goodly

sum of money and I suppose I am trying to cover myself on both

bases. The idea of atttending an intensive is a good one, of

course - I didn't realize until going back to the website that they

were actually " mini schools " . Unfortuately, the school's timing is

convenient and the intesive's is not and blah, blah, blah. Once

again my ego strains to figure out that, which it lacks the

information to even guess at. Who knows, going to the " school "

seemed inuitive and I hesitate to go back on that decision for fear

it is my conditioned mind trying to protect itself. Maybe going to

an intensive to try things out first might be a nice compromise that

all hands can live with....Thanks, Harry

(I do have the audio set

by the way, I just haven't written anything down when I ask the

questions of myself)

Oh, . Thank you so much for taking the time to write. Reading

your words, I feel a glow of warm pleasure that someone would see my

behavior as inspiring.

I have felt inspired more than once in reading your responses to

others on the list. My sense of you is someone very wise and kind and

insightful. I'm so glad you're here.

I am still amazed at how easy life can be when I'm not clinging to my

painful beliefs but investigating them. The combination of the

exchange with Harry and your message to me somehow reminds me of the Q

& A section in LWI where someone asks how they can do The Work without

the support of others nearby. 's response is to point out that

when she started discovering The Work, there was no one around to

support her. Since my work is internal, it's always available, no

matter where I go, what I do, and regardless of whether anyone else is

working on themselves or supporting me. I love that.

love,

Tom
