Hi Fred and welcome to the group. I'm sorry your pain is so bad that it brought

you to us. I am unfamiliar with the Philadelphia area so can't be of any help

with a specific doctor or clinic.

I do know that chronic pancreatitis can be excruciatingly painful and that the

pain, coupled with the nausea, can be almost more than a body and mind can

bear. Are you following the doctors orders to the T, when it comes to what

foods and drinks to avoid? Have you reached the point yet where you are being

hospitalized occasionally?

Have you discussed the pump with your " best " doctor? I know many of them are

quite unfamiliar with the pump and aren't much help with it. The doc should, at

the very least, refer you to a chronic pain doc or surgeon who has a good track

record with installing and maintaining the pumps. Some chronic pain physicians

as well as cancer care physicians, are very knowledgeable about these things.

My friend had pancreatitis and a morphine pump, but he did not follow

the doctors orders. He ate things he shouldn't and occasionally consumed

alcohol. Basically he kept thwarting the good the pump was doing, by not

following the doctor's good orderly direction. He was his own worst enemy when

it came to his health care.

My best friend had pancreatic cancer and was in such bad pain that she

was incoherent. I dragged her to the Royal University Hospital back home. They

admitted her immediately. A week later she was released from the hospital. She

had some colour in her cheeks, could walk short distances again, and had an

appetite for the first time in months. She was also sporting a brand new

morphine pump.

Of course, the cancer spread and eventually killed her, but right up until she

died, her quality of life was incredibly improved by that little morphine

distribution device. If the pump could help you even half as much as it helped

her, it would be worth finding a competent physician who could work with you to

get optimal benefits from one.

Some days I just wish I had a magic wand..........

please help me if you have any info on how to minimize the pain or

where i can go to be treated with opiods.

Hi Fred,

Welcome to the group...sorry for your pain...it sound horrible! I live

about a hour west of Philadelphia and go to a great pain clinic in Philly.

I also know of a pain Dr. in Lancaster. If you tell me which direction you

are from Philly I would be glad to give you the name of the correct Dr.s.

We are not supposed to give out the name of Dr.s on the list so you can

email me at melback@... and I will be glad to email you back with the

info.

The pain clinic I go to in Philly does believe in narcotic therapy if your

condition warrants it and they also have lots of experience with the

pump....I am having them implant one for me in Oct... They are great but

you will probably need a referral from your primary or another Dr. you have

seen and it might take a while to get an appt. as they are busy. I hope I

can help and I hope things get better for you
