Hi

I have a question regarding the common working file with

Medicare. There are times when a patient has a Medicare card with all their

info on it but the CWF doesn’t show any records of the patient eligible

or termed. How else do you verify coverage with Medicare because when I call

them I just get a big run around.

Thanks for your help..

It is weird .. I've had it happen tome as well. I don't know how long it takes to show up in the system. Iwould guess it depends on case load. When you call tell them pt doesn't showup in the working file, and that's why you are calling. Good Luck! sometimes if the patient's services billed to Medicare were outside your region, the patient's record is linked to that region...IF that is the case and IF you are able to do an eligibility search in other regions, do that, sometimes the patient's information will show in the other region.

I have found there is very often a longer

time lag with Medicare if a patient has been receiving Social Security

disability checks (for less than 24 months) and then becomes eligible for ESRD

Medicare. These Medicare applications end up being hand processed and often

sit in an office in Baltimore,

sometimes for months. For patients new to the Social Security system when the

apply for ESRD Medicare the process often happens quite quickly as it is all

electronic.

I also find calling Medicare Coordination of Benefits as a provider

helpful & and I have found direct lines to supervisors in Social Security

offices who are often more helpful than some front line workers.
