Guest guest
There hasn't been much discussion yet about pet birds. I got my Quaker about 6 weeks ago. I didn't know very much about these birds and I'm bowled over at how much I've taken to this little bundle of spitfire. Everyone recommends feeding extruded pellets (fortified), but one can supplement with real food. So I do try to be creative with the food I prepare for myself in the evenings. He loves eggs so I give him a half a boiled egg (on the shell) a few times a week. I also make him a scrambled egg with seeds and walnuts served in the half shell. I tried a bit of raw Thousand Hills hamburger, which he immediately rejected but later on I couldn't find it anywhere in his cage. Tonight, he rejected my cultured cabbage and my frozen cherries and raw kefir. But he immediately gobbled up my chicken enchilada with salsa verde. I was careful not to give him any of the cheese in the frozen entry. It had a corn tortilla and he seems to like anything with corn. Anyway, I know that they recommends extruded pellets for dogs and cats, but I don't think the folks here approve of that. I'll probably have more questions as I learn more. It seems Quakers have a tendency to become overweight, get tumors, and become sick easily. Thanks. I'm eager to hear your thoughts.
