Guest guest
Jana, Did you find a lump? I must have zoned out or something; Did you have a needle aspiration biopsy or just a mammo? Does your bloodwork show high WBC's, or did it have something to do with the biopsy? A high WBC count can be from just about anything. Depends on which cells on the differential were high and what your ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate indicating inflammatory conditions) were. They would have to do serial blood studies to draw conclusions from that sort of thing anyway. Did they also do a complement study/C-reactive protein titer? I wouldn't get too freaked unless the doc was panicked to schedule an OR date. Good general stuff to do and great for cancer prevention: Eat at least 20gm of fiber per day (esp. whole grains -enterohepatic recirculation of estrogenic ligands) Eat lots of antioxidants & organics (could take a grape seed extract OPC supplement, too) Eliminate trans fats Limit animal fat intake to a minimum (they oxidize into peroxides- basically- which damage cells) Fat is absorbed from gut into lymphatic system and empties into circulatory system near the heart (and breast tissue) No caffeine (irritant causing fibrocystic breast changes that could preceed cancer) Lots of soy (more estrogenic ligands) No sugar or refined products (causes surges of estrogen & irritating to affected cells) Some natural health people claim that dairy causes lymphatic and breast problems because the caesin in milk that gets transferred to lymph can't be sufficiently metabolized. Previous studies showed that Black Cohosh prevented breast cancer cell development and stopped growth of exisiting cells. I'm seriously bummed about this (I take it) because Duquesne presented data this summer suggesting that Black Cohosh may promote breast cancer development, but I haven't seen their data. Doubt that it is as problematic as they suspect. Black cohosh (Am Indian herb) has an estrogen like structure, binds to estrogen receptors on target tissue like breast and bowel, and displaces actual estrogen. It supresses FSH release from the pituitary, so it will alter ovulation much like hormonal contraceptives. It's been used historically and reliably in Europe for menopausal symptoms. Also lowers cholesterol and increased peripheral blood flow to extremities. Can cause seizures and hypotension if overdosed, but has been used safely for a long time by lots of women. It's also shows antiviral activity in some studies. Best thing to do is be happy! (and faithfully perform SBE & get mammograms per recommendations of ACS) K Subject: Re: Repressed anger and breast cancer article creepy! Esp since my test results came back with high white blood cell count. I'm totally at a loss now, because what do I do now? Get the lump removed or more tests or what? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
geez louise, K, I better print all that out, girl! yeah its really confusing, I've been really tired etc, found a lump under my arm, lymph node or whatever so the gp ran a blood test which just showed up high, but they just gave me a huge antibiotic, said it was a cyst likely, and just mailed these test results with a check off like it was no big deal. So my question is, if the antibiotic doesnt get rid of the lump should I get another blood test or what? Go see some kind of oncologist who will tell me I'm just paranoid? Shoot, I was surprised when they verified it actually was a real lump and not my imagination. I'm just really awkward about stuff about me, I hate sounding like the hypochondriac nada, so I tend to say nothing until I keel over.LOL - J __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Jana, This is why I really hate to get into all the different health/pain problems I have had or have...NADA, she never allowed me to complain so I try very hard not to. What said to you is 100% correct, they would further run more conclusive BC's (blood counts) until they could find an answer, if they were real worried. Additionally, your butt would be thrown in for so many tests, your head would spin. I wish MD's would properly discuss this with patients, especially when dealing with lumps. The MD should be the one telling you what to do if the lump does not go away. (LUMP LUMP GO AWAY NEVER COME BACK ANOTHER DAY!!!!).....So sorry Jana- For the time being, sit tight, cannot remember if you had a mamo or not? Could just be a cyst, I have a few in my breasts and it freaks me out.....Does the area under your arm every feel warm to the touch, or does it ever just throb? It is perfectly A-OK to discuss this kind of stuff - We are not NADA's, we are peers who want to be there for you =) Luv to ya, Kim In a message dated 10/16/2004 11:35:28 PM Eastern Standard Time, hellokitty435@... writes: geez louise, K, I better print all that out, girl! yeah its really confusing, I've been really tired etc, found a lump under my arm, lymph node or whatever so the gp ran a blood test which just showed up high, but they just gave me a huge antibiotic, said it was a cyst likely, and just mailed these test results with a check off like it was no big deal.
