USC's program does not charge a program fee...but his Blue Cross hmo may be a bigger stumbling block to the DS than the program fee is. Guest guest Posted August 5, 2004 Report Share Posted August 5, 2004 That seems to be the biggest problem, getting a surgeon who will get WLS approved with Blu Cross HMO, and who is also who is within an hour from home. LOL, if we had the $$ to stay in a hotel for a week or two we would be able to cover the program fee! And so far, Dr Felix and the RNY in Fresno has been the one. For a RNY doc he comes highly recommended, so Joe is going ahead with the consult on the 17th and in ther meantime we are checking out the lapband as well. Guest guest Posted August 5, 2004 Report Share Posted August 5, 2004 Cindee - I have a very dear friend who has Kaiser, so had no option but to have the RNY. He was forced by Kaiser to lose 10% of his weight on his own before they would consider surgery. When he lost it, they said he now had to lose another 10% before they'd operate. The surgery was done in October. He's not ever had a problem with meat, he's had a hip replacement since, and was able to walk at our 50th reunion, having lost about 120 lbs. So it does work for some. Your ex just needs to be cognizant of the possibilities... and they're there post-op for any surgery. Best of luck to him! Bobbe - <128 pounds> from 268.5 at DS 3/12/03.
