Grapefruit is good for hepatitis patients but it does interact with some medications so caution should be used . I love grapefruit juice and just the fruit itself ..

grapefruit

So, is it recommended to eat grape fruit if you have hep c? I know itinteracts with some meds, and the only med I am on is remeron(mirtazapine) and it does not seem to interact with that. Do manypeople eat it, or drink it here?

well as long as you are not taking any medication that it might interfere with it and you enjoy drinking it, go ahead,, samanthascott23 wrote: So, is it recommended to eat grape fruit if you have hep c? I have never drank it before, but I will if it is good for hepatitis!

Thanks for your replies!

Sorry for so many questions over the last few days, I just want to

find out as much information as I can about hep c, as I never gave a

thought to having it before, but realised I don't want to play with it

anymore.

Okay, thanks for clarifying that. I didn't think it would cure it ( i

wish!), but I thought there was some research on it that states

" Grapefruit Compound May Help Combat Hepatitis C Infection " .

Any thoughts on this?

:)

Yes, I eat grapefruit and drink grapefruit juice. I get the ruby reds, *but I am so close to Texas, I could spit hard and hit Texas. I do feel better when I am eating my grapefruits. I read that grapefruit may help combat hep c here

Yes, that is what I read. I didn't read this msg before posting the

link, but this was the article I was referring to.

I wish a cure was as easy as drinking simple fruit juice!

>

> Ok, now that you said that, I went and researched it and found this

article,, is this what you are talking about??? Well it 'may' have

some connection but I dont believe that there is any real proof that

it does anything in the human body,, remember what they can do in a

petri dish is different than what our human bodies do with stuff,, I

think this is MORE RELATED to cholesterol too,, maybe I misread it,

but it sounds like they are tieing this to chol and how that may help

hep c,,

> Grapefruit Compound May Help Combat Hepatitis C Infection

ScienceDaily (Feb. 4, 2008) — A compound that naturally occurs in

grapefruit and other citrus fruits may be able to block the secretion

of hepatitis C virus (HCV) from infected cells, a process required to

maintain chronic infection. A team of researchers from the

Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Engineering in Medicine

(MGH-CEM) report that HCV is bound to very low-density lipoprotein

(vLDL, a so-called " bad " cholesterol) when it is secreted from liver

cells and that the viral secretion required to pass infection to other

cells may be blocked by the common flavonoid naringenin.

Maybe the grapefruit is good for the liver the way cranberry juice is

good for the intestines ? Hope so, except many meds for cholestorol

prohibit graperuit juice...dont' know why.

By the way, folks Im SIX MONTHS virus free. Yahoo:) And this last

treatment was only 24 weeks with the experimental protease inhibitor

combined with interferon and riba. The first time I treated for the

full 48 weeks with only riba and interferon and relapsed within a

month. So who knows, maybe this Vertex is valuable.

I hope you're doing better Eliz - and took care of those chest pains.

Have a great day, all. Ann

Ann, that's very good news! Congrats! Yes, the struggle IS worth it!

I'm especially happy to see that the Vertex-950 seemed to make a big

difference. That's what I'm waiting for, if all else goes well. Great

update for you and for all of us.

The only people who should be afraid of grapefruit are transplant recipients. Grapefruit totally destroys the effects of the anti-rejection meds that we take.Steve...
