Laughter is one of the best interrupters of chronic pain. Find time to

laugh as often as possible. Good conversation with friends involving lots

of laughter may make the difference between a not so good day and a great

day. Look for ways to keep laughter in your life and you will find your

general mood lifted and your pain levels lowered.

When you are sufferring from a high pain day find a funny movie or sit-com

rerun to watch. If you are like me it will relieve much of the anxiety and

tension you might be experiencing and thus improve your overall ability to

handle pain and lift you out of the depression that usually affects those

experiencing chronic intractable pain.

Absolutely Ray

Yes humor helps me tremendously. Watching funny programs, movies, comedy

tapes make me feel much better. Libraries often have videos you can rent for

free.

Reading books about people who triumphed or at the very least coped with

some type of life problems make me feel better. There are also all kinds of

humor books. The public library is one of my best resources and the price is

just right.

Listening to cheerful music makes me feel uplifted. We recently went to a

ragtime concert and bought a CD that my husband and I both enjoy. There are

all kinds of music that is uplifting and fun.

I especially enjoy reading murder mysteries when I am having a wicked nasty

day or days.

Conversely I try to avoid sad movies, books etc. because those make me feel

sad.

There are a zillion free humor sites just type in free humor in your

favorite search engine and voila!

Alohahaha All, <this is not intended as a commercial, just FYI>

The Carolina Health And Humor Association (Carolina HA HA) has a

catalog of books, tapes, and CDs. I use humor and laughter as a pain

control. Recently, I ordered some golden oldies for my mom and dad

who turn 86 this year. They love to live and laugh.

Groups or those interested in becoming a Certified Laughter Leader

can check out www.worldlaughtertour.com and www.laughteryoga.org.

If you are able, it takes a lot of smiles to volunteer at a

children's hospital, assisted living home, or the library. Be a

reader - I don't have to walk much and you see joy brought to people

oyu read to. Yahoo has a Volunteer page that will give you leads to

calll.

(sorry, have to go it is getting too hard to type)

Ray,

I couldn't agree with you more!! I look for laughter and fun where ever I

can find it and I try and surround myself with people who have a good sense

of humor. My group at my aquatics class at the YMCA is great for

laughing...we are always having fun and we often say that we exercise our

'mouths' more than anything else. We go out for lunch once a month and it

is usually my least pain day of the month.

I recommend that everyone try and find things that make you laugh as much as

possible.

Laugh, laugh, and then laugh some more!

Hey All,

Ditto! Laughter is not only the best medicine but at times the only

medicine that works. No need to get a needle in the butt or swallow

a handful of pills. Feeding and watching the birds in my backyard

provides many funny moments at low cost. Rinding my scooter and

running over rude peoples toes also produces a laugh. OK OK I know I

am a little weird but hey....IT WORKS. And then there is my bassett

hound who provides a lot of laughs. I think he is a little weird

too. Any dog that eats cat poo got to be weird... right? As I say.

you can either look at the crap or look for the horse. What we deal

with is far to serious. So lighten up. Get on your scooter and find

rude peoples toes.
