Guest guest
, I'm with you on not being a big fruit and veggie fan. My wife can attest to that fact. I was raised on not just meat and potatoes, but more like fast food and Pepsi. The only vegetables I could eat came from a can and were buried in butter or cream sauce and fruit only worked for me if it came in a sugar syrup like diced peaches or pears. So how do I eat buckets of veggies and 2 or more fruit per day now? Just time. I realized something interesting early on ... I HATED coffee when I first tasted it, and thought beer tasted like sewer water. But, somehow, because it was the socially acceptable thing or because I needed that morning pick-up, I did something strange in my youth ... I " acquired a taste " for coffee and beer. Now how the heck did that happen? Peer pressure, society, a number of factors. I forced beer down because it was the " cool " thing and then eventually began to enjoy it. Imagine that! You can train yourself the same way with fruits and veggies. I started saying, okay, I know the sodium is bad, but I'm taking my veggies from a can. Then, we started taking fresh veggies and steaming them. My wife would make a sauce and I'd put it on the veggies. Each time we ate, I tried to use less and less sauce until I was just dipping my fork in the sauce before I took a bite. Eventually, I learned to enjoy the veggies plain. Raw veggies were similar - I'd dip in salad dressing, and just use less dip until I became accustomed to the flavor. We'd also steam the veggies less and less until they were crunchier. The BIGGEST change was simply eliminating my free day. Without a full day of junk food, my taste buds began to change and I actually began to notice the subtle flavors in natural foods that the chemicals were washing out ... until it got to the point I LOVE veggies and fruits, and when I bite into something " processed " I gag from the taste of chemicals. It can happen .. just give it time! Sounds like you've had a terrific start. Congratulations and we look forward to hearing more success stories from you!
