Guest guest
Jen, I know exactly how you feel and what you have experienced. I feel sooo sorry for you but I've been through it all as well. My pain began almost 3 1/2 years ago from a rear-end car accident I was involved in. My pain is mid-back and left shoulder from where the seat belt caught me and now have fibromyalgia from it. I was working at the time for a water engineering firm as bookkeeper/office manager and the owner of the company expected me to lift and file 20-25 pound files into 4-drawer filing cabinets. I couldn't do it. I felt just like you did. I had to get my pain doctor to write a note to my employer stating that I couldn't lift anything over 1-2 pounds but the employer kept insisting I do so. He finally " laid me off " last March 14 for " lots of reasons " - all unsubstantial. But at least I'm not there to take any more abuse from him. At the time he laid me off, I was just getting ready to have my THIRD lumpectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer Jan. 2, 2003. I'm not sure what you mean about the auto immune rash you get, but when my pain gets to a certain point, I break out in a red-rash on my neck and face and it shows people that I am in a LOT of pain. I have no control over this redness but at least people can see I am in a LOT of pain. Take care of yourself! Guest guest
Cherie, I have FMLA restrictions, but sometimes I feel they treat them as a joke, or something to be ignored. I also don't think they realize how debilitating FM and chronic back pain can be. I feel very fortunate to have the FMLA, so they can't do things like lay me off, or get rid of me, without facing a discrimination lawsuit. The rash I get shows up any time my body goes haywire, and I have a really bad flare. The drug reaction I had that caused my Fibro did some damage to my auto-immune system, and it gets really whacked out at times. It's my telltale sign that I'm in for a doozy of a flare. It's odd, though, that I only get it on the top, or tip, of my nose! It also lets everyone around me know that I'm in a lot of pain, because I only get it during my worst flares.
