Our old house was on a busy two lane country highway, and we never felt safe, had the alarm system and all. Had several break ins around us and such. Since we bought this house, it is actually closer to town, but off the main road, so way less busy, and more rural, and we feel really safe. But one habit he have carried over is locking all doors and windows always. I don't even like to air our home in the spring and fall unless we are sitting in the room with the open windows. My neighbor NEVER locks doors, goes to town and leaves the home unlocked. This serves as a reminder to us as to why we do what we do. We don't leave lights on outside either, and don't have any security lights. I think your ordeal is probably one of my worst fears. I took a gun training course a few years ago, and I can tell you the first thing they asked us is can you live with killing someone if you or your family is threatened? If you cant answer immediately yes, leave. Don't have one around if you are not prepared to fully use it. I think the first two classes were dedicated to that whole fact of whether we could actually use it for deadly force. Because I was trained you shoot to stop the attack by shooting third button center mass. (not shoot to kill, but that is in fact what would happen). I highly recommend calling your local PD and taking classes with them. They will train you on the safe use of a gun, and some law should you ever find yourself in the position to have to use it. Our little dog barked and I woke up to a man standing over our bed. I starting screaming and my husband woke up and chased the guy out of the back door. He Went through my purse and stole some cash out of my husbands wallet. Our little phoebe was asleep on the couch and right next to the guy as he went through my purse. I am scareder than I have ever been. I do not know if he will come back, I do not know why he was standing over my bed. I pray to God he was not here to hurt us. I cannot sleep and I don’t know what to do next. Guest guest Posted July 27, 2008 Report Share Posted July 27, 2008 Thanks Jules. I never thought I would want to shoot a gun until I saw that shadowy dark figure last night. I have never been so scared and I could not stop screaming, but as soon as Steve ran him out of the bedroom, I panicked about Phoebe because she fell asleep on the couch. I leapt to the living room with a single step and cradled her in my arms while I just cried. If anything would have happened to her, I do not know if I could have lived with myself. We will light the house up like a carnival from now on. I have lived in dangerous areas of Houston, Dallas, and Beaumont and never had someone break in and stand over my bed. We live in a rent house so I am looking at alternative security systems that are not so permanent. I praise the Lord he did not hurt us, or take Phoebe off the couch. The kids will sleep in our room for awhile. I managed to go to sleep about 7 AM and just woke up now. The kids slept in bed with me and hubby slept on the couch to guard against any fool that might come back. I had a nightmare there was a huge cobra snake in our house and we could not find it. I told my husband I wanted to learn to shoot a gun. At least in Texas we can still do that. The police are putting our house on special patrol. He said it is very unusual that someone would actually come into the house while were sleeping and he seemed worried. You know it’s bad he the police man is scared.
