Answering by emails probably varies by service and version. With AOL 9.1, I can highlight the body of the message I am replying to, and I can reply within it now it seems, but I usually don't. I'll usually pick the most important part or cut and paste parts out. That's the other thing: the services tend to chance how things work without notice. Rather annoying that.
