Guest guest Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 This msg was sent in: Dear , I have only joined recently and have a question to ask. Do you get swollen ankles with this condition? If I press on the sides of my ankles they are sore too. There doesn't seem to be any lumps there at the moment. Will be having another blood test tomorrow and will be going back to doctor next week. Regards, Janet. ****** Hi Janet, My ankle swells if the lump is near the ankle. When the lump is higher up, it doesn't affect the ankle. I have been using a TEDS anti-embolism compression stocking, and that helps with edema. I haven't had any ankle swelling in quite a while. Swelling is due to edema, and once the tissue is stretched, it may swell easier. Older people with EN seem to have more of a problem with continued ankle swelling from what I have read. Love, Quote
Guest guest Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Janet Hi, I have had EN since I was 17 years old. My ankles have swollen to the point they over lapped the top of my shoes. I have had to wear size ten to eleven houseslippers. Pain you better believe there was pain and still is. The lumps do not have to be on the ankles. I have cried because my legs and ankles hurt. I am still in flare. I have never been out of it. Not even since I developed Sarcoidosis and diagnosed with it in 1973. Guest guest Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I have had EN since 1999 and my ankles have been giving me more problems than anything else in the past 4 years.....they too swell so big that they go overlap my feet...the pain is unbearable and I have it almost constantly....my right ankle is the worst. I have found nothing to help eleve the pain....I was on methotrexate for many months and finally gave up on that because it didn't help with that...my legs are better though... Guest guest Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Hi Terri, Have you tried using an anti-embolism stocking or elastic bandages? My EN leg is more "spongy" than my normal leg. The stocking keeps the edema under control, although I admit I can feel it starting as the day goes on. Love, You can help Erythema Nodosum Research.
