Hello All,

I'm a recovering Mc's and Coke-aholic and have been trying to

switch to a traditional foods-based diet. I've also been working to

switch all my hygiene products to non-toxic and safe products. I've

changed quite a few things but not my face regimen yet. I have been

using ProActiv for years and years. I have two questions...

1: I've been drinking a bottle or more of kombucha a day to detox.

What other routines have people used? I should note that I'm nursing

my 18 month old and hope to get pregnant soon so I can't do anything

too intensive. So I'm looking for any and all thoughts on detoxing...

2: What face care products do people like? I have fairly normal skin

but am prone to breakouts related to hormonal surges two times a

month.

Thanks for all your ideas!!!

Anne

As far as face wash, I use a handmade soap which includes oatmeal and

lavendar my sister bought for me from her local co-op. I also used to

use Proactiv, and I found that really the only thing which made this

product work for me was that it got me into a schedule of washing off

the daily toxic exposure items (such as city air residue) from my face

before going to sleep. I also sometimes use witch hazel if i have a

problem spot, just a spot treatment with a cotton ball or swab. I

also found that with a change to a more traditional foods diet, my

need for such treatment decreased to almost nothing, even during my

monthly hormonal changes. You'll find that once your body is rid of

all the things it's been trying to push out through your skin in the

form of breakouts that you'll just simply have less to worry about.

I use a very expensive, exclusive product to wash my face... plain

water. For a face lotion, I use a lotion that I make, it's mostly oils

and water and feels wonderful! I've even been known to put straight

oil, like coconut oil on me.

Hi, ,

I am new and just reading through this topic and it caught my eye

that you brush your teeth with Dr. Bronners peppermint.

I like to use Dr. Bronner's products. Do you use the liquid castile

soap on your teeth? Just Curious!

Thanks, Mishaun

Hi & all -

I've been 'listening in' on this thread with my 'ears' perked up. Lots of new

ideas to try.

How much baking soda & apple cider vinegar do you use for washing your hair? I

am assuming you have it pre-mixed in a bottle....? I just might try this...

Thanks !

, I do something similar to what Carolyn describes. I have long hair, and I

do premix in

repurposed lemon juice containers or ivory dish soap type containers for both

solutions. I

also use 1 TBSP per cup of water for both the BS and the ACV. I wet my hair,

pour about 2

cups of the BS solution in at my scalp, sort of sectioning and massaging as I

go. I leave it

in about 2 minutes (longer than that and my hair starts to feel dry). I rinse it

out with the

ACV, and I use about 3 cups of that solution. I don't rinse that out. Once your

hair dries

you don't smell it at all, but I think it's a nice smell anyway!

Here's a really helpful blog I have bookmarked on this:

HTH! :)
