Guest guest
Its my under standing that if they get a hang up they either call back or send out a policeman. I dont' think they ignore it. I would not say sick.. I would say Mergency. You don't want her calling during the learning phase cause she throws up in the middle of the night. KWIM. Steph [sPAM][DownSyndromeInfoExchange] question on communication in emergency situations In working on my child's IEP it occurred to me that we should included goals for emergency issues which got me to thinking about what if my child who not only has DS-Autism but is hearing impaired and has a severe speech disorder. How would she communicate her needs should she be able to call 911 without someone thinking it's a crank call and hanging up? Also, in training her how to dial 911 what if she should just randomly dial it not because it's an emergency but because she is doing what was taught and still in the learning phase? Is there a state register for those with disabilities that will have their name, address and phone number and a number for their caregiver where if they get a call instead of ignoring it they will call back or call caregiver/parent etc. to make sure nothing is wrong and once she calls how will she be able to tell them what is wrong? She can say "sick" so do we teach her to just say sick? I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas about this.
