Guest guest
Last Friday we had our first visit with our DAN dr. in Arkansas. We had completed numerous lab tests (mail order style!) and were so happy to learn what we can do to help our son, now 8, who has autism. She seemed very surprised -- shocked, even -- to learn from the lab results that he doesn't have a problem with yeast, and he doesn't have problems with a leaky gut. However, the long list of foods that he is sensitive to does indicate that he had a leaky gut at one time. At this point, we are going to be filtering our water (flouride, aluminum) and withholding foods that he is sensitive to, adding some mixed amino acids (I think that's what the special pharmacy will be mixing for us), supplementing folinic acid. We'll also be continuing to keep him on the Houston Neutraceuticals peptizyde (started at age 4, and probably the reason for his healthy gut!) and Spectrum Complete from Kirkman. My main question IS ... we've only been on this major diet for about a week now (the hardest thing to avoid has been MSG -- highly sensitive to this), so he pretty much gets absolutely no processed food, drinks only water, and eats whole foods with very little seasoning, lots of pears & bananas & mozarella cheese. Luckily he's not allergic to chicken or beef, so those have been his protein. SO ... we do think that we may already be seeing more conversational speech, BUT the last two or three days have been horrendous for revisiting tantrums, fears, aggressive behavior and general WHINY- NESS!!! Is there such a thing as " withdrawal " as a result of elimating chemicals and foods which cause him problems? I know we were about to pull our hair out with the withdrawal stuff when we started him on the Peptizyde -- and it lasted for about three weeks. IF this is withdrawal, should I expect it to be shortlived, or will it last longer than three weeks??? One more thing -- does anyone have a recipe for bread made with RICE flour, honey vs. sugar, no eggs, no milk? Hope so!!! HELP!!!
