Sorry I haven't been on much. I'll explain later...

But a few suggestions... First, I don't know where you live, but a

friend in NY said they have a pertussis (whooping cough) outbreak there.

Many people aren't still protected from their baby shots after a few

years, so it's very common for older kids and adults to get it. The

only problem is that there's nothing you can do for it except just

supportive care. I'd definitely ask for what Ursula did - Tylenol with

Codeine. It works very well, and unless it makes him sick to his

stomach should be well tolerated. If it makes him sick, there are

preparations with vicodin that do the same thing. He shouldn't have to

suffer with that. But do make sure that even if he gets cough syrup,

have him keep coughing every once in a while, so he doesn't get anything

infected by keeping it down in his lungs.

So, I'd better run... I have a breathing treatment due. I love having a

laptop - I've been in the hospital for the last few days with pneumonia

and can still do e-mail now. In fact, I was in the ICU yesterday and

they said I was the only patient in the ICU ever to send e-mail!

Anyway, hope that helps... and hope Walt feels better soon.. I can

relate these days!

works better on Macey than the other two.

Also, maybe some type of chest rub. we use to use bengay on my mother

(asthmatic).

I am already giving him cough med w/codeine. Are you sure about " Bengay " ???

I have heard of Vicks but Bengay???? Thanks!

I can't believe you are in the hospital and sending E's to us!!! You need

rest!!!!!! Thanks so much for the suggestions though. I will definitely bring

this up with the docs. Please don't worry yourself with our problems. You need

to get yourself better so you can get out of there. I hope you feel better

soon! Please take care of yourself and thanks for thinking of us. I feel like

we are all one big family! )

I will ask doc about this. Question to all.....does anyone know what

whooping cough looks or sounds like??? I just finished reading about it and

the symptoms are...runny nose(has), vomiting(has), fever(has), bouts of

coughing that last up to 1 min(has), and complications include

nosebleeds(has), and middle ear inf(has). Does this really sound like he may

have this??? Should I contact doc??

when Cassie and my oldest daughter had croup, it did not last very long. The

symptoms usually were worst at night, and they got better within a week. I

know that RSV produces a bad cough also. Right now, Cassie's asthma is really

acting up, because of a front that blew through and our weather has been

really wacky. I have tried a cough syrup called H-C tussive with very good

results. You really do not want to stop the cough entirely because of the

possibility of build up in the lungs. I feel for you, because I know how

those nights full of coughing fits can wear you down. Good luck, and I do

hope things get better.

Hi, Walt has had his coughing spells for about 5 days now. He does have the

sore throat(who wouldn't be?), and he is constantly gagging which also leads

to vomiting. I'm at my wits end on what it is and how to make it stop! Thanks

My friend's daughter had parapertussis which a hybrid of whooping cough. It

took them quite a while to diagnosis because she didn't present like a

whooping cough kid. She had alot wheezing, and coughing - but not the usual

whoop. This child was not immune deficient and had all of her shots. So it

is possible to get - I would certainly run it by the Dr. Since it isn't

something that would come to mind. Hang in there. I am praying for you

the symptoms of pertusis except the " whoop " . I hope you don't mind but I would

like to share something with you that Walt said to me. Last week was my

birthday(15th) and with everything going on we all totally forgot. When he

realized he missed it he came to me with a note crying. The note had a picture

of him crying that said " mommy, I'm sorry I missed your birthday " . Our

anniversary is monday so loving hubby that I have booked us in a hotel room

for last friday night but.....I couldn't bear to leave him while he is so sick

and hubby agreed. So we cancelled. Now he is so depressed that we missed this

to take care of him and he keeps saying he's sorry(and he's only 6!!!). I

don't know what else to do to make him feel better mentally and phisically. I

keep telling him it's ok, there will be plenty more b-days and holidays to

celebrate but he just breaks my heart to see him this way. Thanks to all of

you for listening and letting me vent my frustrations. I appreciate it with

all my heart! Besides my hubby and mom & dad(who don't fully understand), the

only ones I have to talk about this with is all of you. Thanks you all so much

and my prayers are with you always!
