Guest guest
I recently contacted several local labs to compare out-of-pocket costs for patients without insurance. I was shocked to see how disparate costs can be. For example, a 25 hydroxy vit d level with Quest is $215, with Legacy hospitals (in Oregon) it's $150, and with Oregon Medical Lab it's only $64. Similarly, a CRP is $70 with Quest and only $30 with the other two; a lipid panel is double the cost with Quest; homocysteine is $176 with Quest and $45 with Legacy; I could go on. Across the board, Quest is quite expensive. I'm not sure how it competes with labs in other states. I'm currently set up with Quest, but now I'm contemplating switching, even though it means re-working my office flow. Even for patients who have insurance, it's still a way to keep overall health care costs down.
