I just read your message about cults and how similar the process is

to the early home life of a KO. I am putting the puzzle pieces of

my life together as I read UBM. Both my brother and I ended up in

an organization most people would call a cult, although the

organization would deny it was. I geuss the word cult is dirogatory

and no cult would cop to it. Certanly desending points of view are

not allowed. I would love to hear more on how growing up in nada

land gives rise to a vuneralbility to cult induction.

The French government published a white paper on cults ( " Les sectes

en France " , 1996). Cults are considered dangerous to human rights,

and the government must be able to distinguish between religions and

cults in allowing tax exemptions.

They admitted that it is very hard to define a cult, but gave a list

of characteristics which may distinguish cults from religions.

- mental destabilization

- exhorbitant financial demands

- removing the person from the original environment

- attacks on physical integrity

- isolating children from the outside world

- more or less anti-social discourse

- troubles with public order

- judicial involvements

- bypassing traditional economic paths

- attempts to infiltrate public powers (government)

Aren't a lot of these what children experience in BPD families?

I may be a nut, but the movie that always helps me the most to snap

out of a cultic mindset is " runaway bride. " Screw the whole love

part, but the part about her trying all the eggs again, I totally

identify with. Somedays I have to start there. I open my eyes and

in the morning and look around my room. " Do I like this wall color?

Which wall color is my favorite in the house? Which piece of

furniture do I like best? Am I hungry? What do I like to eat for

breakfast? " Sometimes I try a few things just to find myself and my

tastes again. Find me!
