At that time I was in another province in Canada and I was able to survive. After moving across country in 2003 I am now back on a provincial pension because of increased pain levels. The amount received is now lower than what I received in the other province. When it comes to the loss of work and/or the ability to work that can be even more devastating. In many societies we are defined by what we do. There are no categories that allow us to explain that we are disabled. From experience when I have honestly told someone about the life I lead they look at me and I can see they do not comprehend. When it comes to buying items I am always paying my accounts with 3/4 payments so I can survive. When it comes to buying other items such as clothing I have used online auctions for most of my stuff. I also look to other web sites where I can buy stuff second hand. Yes I know what it's like and I worry a great deal because if I had to replace a major item I don't know what I would do. You mention the Salvation Army, and I wonder what kinds of other stores are where you live? Have you done any research on what is available? One of the items I was given when I first moved to where I live now, was a directory of second hand stores. This has helped me a great deal. I have found several good deals there. The one thing that still bothers me is our society that allows people such as us to live on or below poverty incomes. We have done nothing wrong, our injuries are legitimate, so why can't we be treated like human beings? Be Blessed E.
