Guest guest
The leg jumping and jerking just before sleep or when you lay down is called restless leg syndrome. It generally occurs in patients with neuropathy. It is the nerves themselves that causes the jumping sensation. The only thing that I know of that helps is medication to treat the neuropathy such as Neurontin - and no, I have never heard of Neurontin being the cause of the restless leg syndrome. Some doctors prescribe sedatives or muscle relaxers to help stop the jumping nerves. I take Flexeril and a friend of mine takes it too. She has restless leg syndrome really bad but then again she also has diabetic neuropathy to the point of where her toenails are turning black and falling off. Her distal pulses are getting weaker and weaker too but the jumpy jerky leg motion continues and it does hinder her sleep when she doesn't take the medication to help control it. Guest guest
Antidepressants like Effexor and others can reduce or eliminate such symptoms. Discuss the problem with your doctor. There are other medications that can be given. Ray N. co-moderator
