Guest guest
My suggestion would be to buy a used bike. Check the classified ads..for listings. Also yard sales. susie q > Hi All-- > > > Jim S here-- sorry it's been so long since posting. It is a truth of > the DS that after a while you completely forget that you ever had > surgery. Guest guest
Hi Jim, It's nice to hear from you, and congratulations on the extended weight loss! I bought a cheap bike from wall mart and still enjoy using it, I just made sure it had extra shocks on the seat. I think it cost me around $150. How did every thing go in the Ukraine? Are the kids home with you now? Ed in Vegas Update and help Hi All-- Jim S here-- sorry it's been so long since posting. It is a truth of the DS that after a while you completely forget that you ever had surgery. I'll post some new pics in my folder. I had my surgery in February of 2003. No issues with the surgery. Recovery was long and I felt zombie like for about 6 weeks. After 8 weeks I was back to normal and it's been a great ride since then. I started out at about 385. Had surgery at 370. I'm now down to 233. I'd like to lose another 20 pounds or so. I have no food issues except white bread and that even seems to be getting much better lately. My food intake quantity is about 1/2 pre surgery---maybe a third-- but WAAAAY more than a couple of friends who had Gastric Bypass surgery. I was stuck around 255 until my wife and I travelled to Ukraine to adopt a couple of kids. I got some bad chicken over there and was sick for a week- Between the " Chicken Kiev " diet and a LOT of walking I was able to junp start the weight loss and I am still losing about 3 pounds a week. YAY!! My new weight loss has me motivated to get back to working out. I rode my daughter's bike today and it felt GREAT! Soooo the question part of the post is.. I want to buy a bike. I do NOT want to spend a lot of money on something that is going to sit in the garage. So I want to start out as cheap as possible-- but at 233 pounds, I'm still not a little guy. Any suggestions on a good starter bike that I will not destroy? Are the K-mart $100 specials going to work for me? I plan on easy rides on paved trails. IF it is something that I really enjoy I might consider getting a good bike later--- but I know myself too well to spend 1500 on a bike right now. Suggestions? Guest guest
Hi Ed! Thanks for the info! We are all back safe and sound. We came to the meeting at Sunrise and no one was there--- a good excuse to go out and eat! We have a web site up with all the adoption stuff at www.martythompson.com/Ukraine.html Hope to see you next meeting!
