Hey Rhonda, Donna B. here. I love your ideas. Why hasn't a 60 yr. old woman

thought of these things herself. DA !!! It makes so much sense to balance a

week with heavy and light jobs acording to pain level. l have older

grandchildern and don't see them too often and when I do I can't ask them to do

anything cause I haven't seen them for so long. YOu would think we live a world

apart...about 25 minutes. In todays world I really don't think that is a very

long ride, but I guess Mom does. Who knows anymore. Write again with some good

ideas. Thanks, Donna B

Living with chronic pain or a chronic illness does put limits on what we are

able to do. On other group I'm in a member posted about house work, keeping the

house clean/neat and the fact that our family members may complain or become

unhappy with our lack of keeping things up as we use to do. Her suggestions are

excellent and in the beginning take the help of ALL family members but in the

short run I think her ideas, suggestions will help you feel better about

yourself and pride in knowing you " did something that day " and give you the opt

when you can't do anything the right to say that's okay I deserve the rest

today. Toward the end I added some ideas, things I do that helps me. And too it

can help the family members not complain so much that you aren't doing things

like you use too. Hope they help you....I'm gonna put them in practice to help

keep my house in a little bit better order than it has been lately.....

Have family members help or do an initial deep cleaning. It's so much easier to

keep up with household chores once the intial deep cleaning is done Now comes

theTHREE A DAY PLAN!

You choose 3 chores each day that you are capable of doing according to the

level of pain you are having that day.

On bad days you would pick the easiest things to do like dusting a table or

putting away paper work or things that have collected, then work your way up to

the more difficult chores on the better days like the bathroom tubs or floors.

If you have something major that needs to be done, like say laundry, do only one

chore. You can mix or match things during the day depending on your pain levels

during the day.

Having to go to doctor appointments, shopping tends to drain most cp'ers so on

those days you would not do any chores once home just rest and feel good that

yesterday and the day before you DID get things done and it's time to rest. Even

some days without shopping or appointments the pain maybe to much to do anything

but having the 3 A Day Plan allows you to still feel good because you have

accomplished a lot on other days.

The main idea of this 3 a day plan is to rotate your chores so every thing gets

a touch up every now and then. This way you never get too far behind in anyone

area. Try to rotate the rooms so you can hit all the areas around the house. One

week do your bedroom, the next week the living room and so on. Try to do touch

ups in the bathrooms each week since they tend to be the areas that need it most

often.

Also take advantage of cleaning products, gadgets that make the job easier. Also

use stools when sorting junk mail off the counter, even cooking a meal. I have

found that once you get your kitchen/bathroom floors really clean (deep

cleaning) using the new lite weight wet mops (swiffter) is a gem easy to move

around no wringing twisting mop pails needed. Using the wet mops every other day

or so keeps your floors clean making it look like you mop everyday.

I've also get my grandkids to help with little things, they are still very young

and always want to help mawmaw so when they come and stay I get them to help do

small things that give them a sense of pride and truly helps me. The grandkids

seem to be a little better at helping with chores at mawmaw's than your own kids

were/are. Get the kids to pitch in too offering praise and great thanks for

helping around the house. If it's not but wiping down the counter tops or

stacking the magazines in a neat pile.

These suggestions are just some ways you can manage to keep your house clean and

still feel good that you are able to adapt to the changes brought about with the

chronic pain/illness. We all have little tricks that we use to keep our house in

some order we can add these ideas so if you have a great cleaning ideas or

tricks that help make it easier to keep your home clean/picked up pass them on

so others can benefit from it.

This is exactly what I do, Rhonda. I also try to pace myself. If I do

a active chore such as dusting the house, I will next do a sit down

chore such as balancing the check book. I am in the process of doing

my windows for the spring and summer. I have lots of windows, but if

I thought about how many I had to do I wouldn't get any of them done

because the thought would be overwhelming. I break the windows down

into separate chores. I only take the curtains & blinds down in one

room at a time, otherwise, the pressure is on to finish.

Once the curtains & blinds are down in the first room, I dust and wash the

window frames and sills, then I take the blinds to the tub to soak

while I do a sit down job. Then I wash the blinds in the tub, and

wrap them in an old towel to dry, then I hang them to finish drying.

The next day I wash the window panes, iron and put up the curtains.

Voila...one room is done and it only tood 2 days and I'm not all

pooped out.

I do this with every chore I do throughout the day.
