Hi all.

Just an update. Visited the pdoc yesterday. He agreed that the

Zoloft never got to a theraputic level. We had wanted to start the

Zoloft again having faith that at the low dose our daughter had been

on she had a really good response.

However, my daughter has it in her mind that the Zoloft didn't work

so she refused to retry it. She had been on 25mg only. She is only

11 yr's old and doesn't quite understand the point to starting the

Zoloft again.

Her pdoc and I respected her wishes and now she is taking Luvox. I

pray that this helps.

Her OCD past and present has consisted of obsessive thoughts only

but now I'm getting some vibes that maybe something else might be

starting up.

We take yoga classes at a new and beautiful holistic center. It is

a welcoming place where everything is new and squeaky clean. A few

days ago when we were leaving for our yoga class she said to me that

she wanted to take one of our yoga mats because she felt that the

ones at the center had germs on them. The items at the center are

all brand new and super clean.

Then she mentioned last week that she likes our bath tub to be very

clean. She had never ever cared about these things before. Any

thoughts?

Thanks,

Jen

Hi Jen,

It's so good that the doctor respected your daughter's feelings on

this. Since it is her illness, part of it is " taking charge " of it,

and medication is all part of that. We have allowed our son to stop

medications even when we knew it was not a good idea, but so he could

see that for himself. I think it is really important that they be

empowered on this one, even when sometimes it can be the OCD

contributing to the decision making, has been in our case anyway.

I really hope the Luvox works out. I know many in my support group

whose kids use it and have good success. It seems to be a popular

choice after zoloft.

Re other OCD issues that have come up, it is pretty much the nature

of OCD to " switch " from one thing to another. It will even go from

needing super clean to not washing, opposites of the same focus. Or

one thing will be conquered only to switch to something else... It's

in it's nature to want to grow itself, so it finds any opening, and

those are endless, esp with an active imagination, as most kids

have. Insidious disorder this OCD!!!

Hugs!
