Hi Beth,

We have been on SCD for 4 1/2 weeks now, and only 4 days ago did my

son's belly finally start to flatten. the first 3 weeks he was

definately in worse shape than before we started. I called our DAN

after about 2 weeks and she told me to give it 2 more weeks and she

was right.

She said that the gut is going through a huge transformation while

the bad guys die off and the good guys start to colonize. The first

2 weeks there was more bloating than ever, " trophy poops " some days

and undigested diarreah other days. It was so frustrating.

We are now coming through and my son's stomach was flat as a pancake

this morning. His excema and acne that he has had on his face for

over 2 years is almost gone.

I know every kid is different. but I can only give 1 fruit per day

or the yeasties come back like wildfire. I can smell it on his

breath.

Good luck and hang in there!! I am new to the diet too so another

veteran mom may be able to contribute more.

Hi Beth, truthfully life was shear hell in the beginning. I was

learning all this new information and my kid was a wreck. He

screamed and ran around in agony, I'm not exagerating. I was so

exhausted.

I didn't follow SCD. I don't agree with ripe banana, pear, but I do

understand what the SCD are saying in why they allow this. That

wasn't good for my son. I had to take most fruit away and I had to

use fermented foods. At some point the battle was over.

Your kid was easier to manage because he was drugged. I remember

thinking " I'll take the autism, that wasn't as bad as this hell. "

My catatonic son turned into a lunatic when I took foods away.

The good news is WONDERFUL: If your child is reacting BE HAPPY!

This is working and food has a dramatic effect on your child. SO

you are onto something!!!

I hate hearing mixed signals from people. Currently I'm being drug

around to chelate naturally, try homeopathy, chelate w/ script, on

and on and on. SOme say Hbot good, some say wait. SO I TOTALLY GET

HOW CONFUSING it is to hear different approaches on diet.

All I can say is to follow your gut and try to pick what will work

for your child. If cravings are still a problem when you get

through the intro on SCD or as you proceed further, you may want to

consider trying more BED concept eliminating all sugars and emphasis

on fermented foods. SCD is healing the gut, so in any case you are

giving the gut a break and a rest period.

My son is doing so well! Hang in there. My former MCdonald addict

just finished 4 days of only vegetables/yolk/coconut oil!!!!!! It

will get better. This with colonics sessions and he's improved again

so much.

But wow Beth it sounds like he is doing well by the list of healthy things that he is eating. Remember he may go thru two or three bad, whiny, die off weeks before he starts to perk up. This was my sister in law's experience with her son.

What am I doing wrong--Casey, Di, or other diet experts????

So here I am, day 10 of an SCD/caveman diet. I've gotten my son to eat vegetable soup believe it or not which I can literally put anything in. However, he's a total crank, crying all the time and seems yeastier than ever. He's crying all the time and it's driving me nuts--he's also itchy everywhere and ridiculously hungry all the time. I have stuck my comments in....OH MY GOD...if that kid will eat soup,

never ever go back...damn, that is the fastest route to gut healing,

girl...stay the course!!! Stan's kid was a soup drinker, darnit, and

it makes such a difference. Hungry is okay, starving is not...going

to happen...give his gut a big break from difficult digestion and you

will see gains fastet than the rest of us with our non soup

eaters!.Now the thing is to make it count with those

soups...meatballs with veggies pureed in them, esp bit of nori of

seaweeds bc of the zinc....bone broths with two tbl of ACV, bring to

boil and then setr to low 24 or more hours...the longer the slow cook

the richer in healing nutrion the broth....but no flavor, really. so

you still need to sautee whatever and then make the soup, later, with

the broth as a base...if he lived on soups with easy to digest foods

for two or three weeks you would have a different kid when and as you

reintro food you want him to eat...I swear. Matt is in the other

room on his third helping of sauteed green beans and broccoli after

eating three chicken drumsticks for " first dinner " ....he has the rest

of his life to eat and put on weight...do your homework and make that

hunger count when it is time to bring in foods...wht do you wish he

would eat? Well, he probably will eat it post a big soup only

diet...esp if you bring in enzymes so that he has no discomfort

breaking it all down. Good luck...you are already seeing the

changes...push on.

We eat brown rice instead of the white bc white rice is plain starch that when swallowed it turns to glucose, the body recognize it as sugar. Sometimes we eat guinoa in lieu of brn rice. Sugar feeds yeast/fungus. I don't look at potato as veg actually it is fungus maybe the reason why your son "behave": spacing out, foggy, etc afterwards. The yeast dictates his body what to eat in order for the yeast to thrive so continue the BED. You may have to do an aggressive antifungal diet with antifungal suppl. Cal-Mag butyrate is a detoxifier of ammonia and neurotoxin(like MSG); cut meat down to 2oz Hope this helps.Beth Sutton wrote: Thanks so much, everyone, for your words of encouragement! Read enzymestuff site...this is helping Matt BIG TIME and the goal is

to duplicate teh effects of the SCD...it is definately a more pricey

way to go than straight nutrition...but it is working so far in this

house and worth the expense IMO. Don't start feeding potatoes etc,

but the enzymes will allow more meat I think...that really seemed to

sort the ammonia thing for Matt who is not taking his yucca supps at

this time..just does not seem to need them. Try the lamb sausage

from WF...boil in some water about twenty min and then brown...tastes

like gyro meat w/o all the fat. Switch the apples to granny smith

only and get a peeler corer from Linenes and things....hang

tough....my husband broke out in a terrible itchy rash over half his

body when he vut all grainsstarches and sugars...it passed, and so

will this trial with your kiddo.

I'd agree with the others that you're likely seeing withdrawal, die-

off and detoxing. If anything you might want to look at all the foods

and determine if any of them are really new to his diet or suddenly

in much larger quantities in case they aren't agreeing with him.

If you're judging yeast by tongue coat it doesn't always indicate a

yeast problem, it's also a sign of detoxing and clears itself

eventually. This happens on the 10-14 day lemonade diet and I've

witnessed the cycle myself. In spite of a sustained source of sugar

it does not turn into run-away yeast and goes away. My

findings/thoughts on yeast are that it's a bottom of the barrel

opportunist that the body can eventually deal with once everything

else falls in line.

The key to fruit and simple carbs it to not allow large portions at

any one given time or you'll rev up the insulin roller-coaster and

trigger more inflammation which is just as bad as the bad foods. This

inflammation also opens the door for yeast and feeds it too. That is

partly why the lemonade diet is so effective because it provides the

required simple carbs but never overloads at any one time.

Itchiness and voracious appetite can all be triggered by the insulin

roller-coaster too. During the up-swing there is too much

sugar 'everywhere' and everybody who wants some gets their fill

including yeast and bacteria at the skin level. The appetite is

triggered during the down-swing after insulin levels spike to correct

the high blood sugar. Blood sugar then drops dramatically and dips

into hypoglycemia, triggering hunger.

Always go slow and steady with the simple carbs.

Keep us posted, we're all pulling for you!

Casey (40 year old AS kid)

Crazy itching red rash happened to my dh when he cut all sugar and

changed his diet to SCD legal only foods...I think it is diet off and

you should see gains soon. Stay the course and up the probiotics.

Bring in enzymes if not already doing that...esp No Fenil on an empty

tummy...good against yeast. Di

Di
