Guest guest
Hmmmm Sales.... Yes. I have experience in sales... You put them in a van....put a bell on the top....play some loud music...and children will run out in the street to buy them.. So if they test their mother and she is a nada - can they trade her in for a new one? Would the BPs results always flat-line though? Wouldn't a BP's ability to " tap into " and mirror other people be a TYPE of empathy - though not aultrustic? Or would they have a tendency to either show NO feelings or BOTH the sensory and cognitive aspects - which I guess wouldn't be empathy because they would be taking it beyond the empathy - to actually taking on the person's feelings and making it about them.. But, on 2/9 you wrote, " ...after I was a " bad kid " I did all this " good stuff " i.e. Columbia University, Wall Street and etc... " Hey, I figured anyone who survived Columbia U and Wall Street oughta know something about CEOing. *wink* - Edith ______________ > > >>Public release date: 19-Feb-2004 >> >>>> " Our human capacity to 'tune in' to others when exposed to their >>> >>>feelings may explain why we do not always behave selfishly in >>>human interactions but instead engage in altruistic, helping >>>behaviour, suggests Dr Tania Singer. >> >> >>Edith here... >> >>Hmmmm, if I'm understanding this research correctly, this could >>turn out to be a way of testing for DSM-IV Axis II Personality >>Disorders ... like BPD. >> >>My nada, for example, was selfish and didn't have an ounce of >>altruism in her body. Guest guest
I guess most of this about the empathy machine is joking around, but I have given it a little thought and it might not be too difficult a project. Instead of brain scanning (very expensive), we would use a simple polygraph connected to a computer (very cheap). It might just do the trick. Never suggest a cockamamie idea to an engineer, he gets all wrapped up in it. Someone once handed me a card that had printed on it " How do you keep an engineer amused for hours " ? I turned it over and it had the same thing printed on the back. - Dan

Cheaper is better - and especially knowing that BPDs autonomic nervous systems don't react like 'normals' do. See: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/GalFriday/message/11 And Dan wrote: > Never suggest a cockamamie idea to an engineer, he gets all wrapped > up in it. I've known engineers that would do that. LOL - Edith
