Also ask her about vit A intake too. I can hardly overstate how much

better my vision is since starting vit A at 50,000 iu a day.

Further to my post about vit A for vision. For this, it should be actual

Vitamin A, and not carotenes.

thanks for this discussion on cataracts.....Sol, I thought you had to be

careful about large doses of real Vit. A, and should only take carotene in

large doses.......???

I have beginning cataracts and would like to do something to get rid of

them if I can.........

Information I have seen says real vit A is not toxic unless you take

doses in excess of 100,000 iu for long periods of time.

What I have read, you only get a fraction of the carotene you take in

converted into vit A, so you can't do high dose with them, not and

expect the same results as Vit A gives.

+++Hi Betty. He needs to consume a good healthy diet and take all of the

supplements I recommend since all nutrients work together.

The supplements most important for the eyes are cod liver oil, particularly true

vitamin A. But oil soluble vitamins work together with good saturated fats,

proteins, minerals and other vitamins.

Also he needs to get rid of damaging foods and toxins.

He does eat terrible away from home. Maybe this will shake him up enough to

listen to what I have said about diet and vitamins. Sometimes I feel like I am

talking to a brick wall. LOL

Thank you posting the helpful information.

It may be possible, but there are too many factors involved so I couldn't say

for sure.

A proven remedy for cataracts is N-Acetyl-L-Carnosine. It was discovered by a

Russian doctor recently that this substance removes AGEs (Advanced Glycation

Endproducts) in the eyes that cause opacity. Check out

http://successfulhealthsolutions.yolasite.com for more information.

And here are some postings from another group related to using flaxseed oil for cataracts inhumans and dogs ... names and email addresses removed for privacy

Hi,

First, I send my thanks to B for this idea.  I have a friend, afellow member of our church who is in his 70's and had restricted vision due tocataracts.  He is a vet and the folks managing his case would not allow surgery

because " it wasn't that bad yet " but it was sufficiently bad that he could onlydrive in daylight hours.

Due to your suggestion, I bought a bottle of flax seed oil and took it tohim at his home a couple of years ago; asking him to put a drop in each eyeevery day.  He said that he had to do the treatment just prior to retiring in

the evening because the flax seed oil caused his vision to become a bit blurryfor a little while; but when he awoke his vision was as clear as before puttingthe flax seed oil into his eyes.  Within three months there was noticeable

improvement.  Two years later, his cataracts (if there are any), are no longera problem.

Speaking of looking for solutions to various health issues (someonementioned this earlier), dear ones, I have found that searching the SilverListarchives always presents good ideas.  Thank you M, and the folks who make

them available!!

Best regards,:) M

My dog was also one eyed, cataract covered her pupil. I bought regularlinseed oil a gallon at Home Base (a hardware store) in their paint section andfilled a 1 ounce bottle with an eye dropper. Every day she got one drop in her

eye for at least two months. Her eyelids became crusty and I just stoppedtreating her. I was astonished to see the cataract shrank to a pin point andafter several more weeks totally was gone. After seeing this I also used

linseed oil (Flaxseed oil) in my eyes. Doctor said I had a bunch of small cataractsgrowing in both eyes. I had a yearly check up about 5 weeks later and Doctor saidNO CATARACTS. Since then about 5 years ago the cataracts are coming back in my

eyes, I now make my own CS so I use CS + 10% DMSO in my eye wash cup, cataractsare still there but not growing.

When I treated my dog I did not even refrigerate the linseed oil. I foundthat it goes rancid later so when I treated myself I kept the bottlerefrigerated. I guess that our garage was cold enough when I treated my dog to

act like a refrigerator.B

Mostly I've been depending on wild organic blueberries (Trader Joes has them) which are smaller and much darker (a purple-black with more antioxidants) than commercial blueberries. I was diagnosed with beginning cataracts last year and will eventually be going for another test to see what all these berries may or may not have done for me.O

I have cataracts, I got them very early and they have progressed over the last few years. So far I have not found anything that has worked for me. But, I don't know how to gage if they were getting better since the only way I know if from the eye exam and so far they just get worse. I've tried varied supplements, drops for cataract, flax oil drops and.... nothing helped me so if you find something let me know.LouiseOn Jun 15, 2011, at 11:44 AM, Gracia wrote:

Really? Wow, I did not use this product by Life Extension but I used another product using N-acetyl-carnosine.....it burned my eyes. How many times a day do you use it? The stuff I had said four times a day and I couldn't deal after a few months of doing it 4 times.LouiseOn Jun 16, 2011, at 1:04 PM, james fry wrote:

Louise, you're going to love this. The Russians did a lot of work with this back in the 70s & 80s. I run into a Russian chiropractor on Brooklyn, whose brother is an Ophthalmologist. He tells me the stinging is cause by the eyedrops adjusting the Ph of the eyeball. I figure it sounds reasonable. So I adjust my body's Ph. A little baking soda, cut down on the tomatoes, and sure enough, the stinging goes almost completely away. Kewl, huh?

Thanks Jim, Life Extension has great products so I'm looking forward to trying it and I'll try to adjust my body's ph if I get the stinging again. LouiseOn Jun 16, 2011, at 11:33 PM, james fry wrote:
