I think with your kidneys not functioning, Kombucha may be too strong for you, even not advisable, as it is a strong diuretic. I should discuss this with your doctor to be on the safe side. If you are allowed to drink tea and coffee, Kombucha would be possible in small quantities as well, if not, stay well clear. Gas is a normal reaction to probiotic drinks .... lots of gas, and that can cause pain in the bowel. It is VERY important to drink plenty of good clear water - I don't know how much your regime of dialysis prescribes, as your kidneys do not function to regulate the water household. As Kombucha is a powerful detoxifyer and can cause strong reactions you need to be really careful there. Guest guest Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Hi, I have no idea how kombucha would affect a body without proper kidney function, but I know that when one starts drinking kombucha, gas can be a very normal detox symptom. I also know that one needs to drink a lot of water when drinking kombucha, I would say at least the equivalent amount. Don't know how that would affect your body either. I can get info about kombucha and kidney failure if you want. maria. On Fri, 03 Mar 2006 23:45:59 -0000 " leafsunbear " writes: I have had kidney failure for the past 12 years now. I have been on one type of dialysis for the most part. Recently I switched to Hemo- dialysis. It has been very diffucult to adapt to. I got a kombucha from a friend that swears by it. I made my first batch and tried to drink a small amount, just a sip. I then had the worst pain in my gut and had severe gas. I just finished my second batch and I tasted it, just a sip again. Same problem severe gas and my burps taste like the tea. Why is this happening? Is this common with other people as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any websites with this type of info would also help. I have had no luck with google on this issue. thanks; LSB Quote
Guest guest Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Hi, Sounds like major detox because your kidneys are not working right. Are you able to drink enough water? See www.watercure2.com A nurse friend told me that she knew of someone who got off dialysis by drinking nettle tea. Give it a shot. Just remember: nettles are a diuretic, so you need to drink more water to offset the loss. Hope that helps, drinking Kombucha causes me severe gas > > I have had kidney failure for the past 12 years now. I have been on one > type of dialysis for the most part. Guest guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 I would concur with Margaret. Might I suggest you talk to the chinese doctors at TCM Hospital in shanghai for some medicine to help with your kidneys etc? The cost is steep($140 for 20 days supply), but you can rest assured that you will get the best help that 2000 years of traditional chinese medicine can offer. There may be another chinese herbalist nearby but the cost will be the same and who knows what experience the local herbalist has. This is Traditional Chinese Medicine from China. In regards to using a cleansing substance when your kidney is out of balance would not be advisable until it is back in order. www.tcmtreatment.com and fill out the patient form. contact me off list if you need more help. After you have balanced out some you would be able to resume drinking kombucha to your hearts content. I'm wondering if you would benefit from a kombucha enema? jaimye > > I have had kidney failure for the past 12 years now. I have been on one > type of dialysis for the most part. Guest guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 Try diluting it with water, like a cordial, and you should have no problem. You can then increase the amount of KT gradually. Guest guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 My kidney's do not work at all. There is nothing chinese medicine can do to change that. It's interesting the number of chinese citzens that are living in america just for the dialysis treatment. In their home country they would just be allowed to die. The main thing I would need to worry about with Kombucha would liver toxicity. I would have to limit my consumption to 2oz's a day. If that much? I very well could have a upper GI infection that would require a endoscopy to diagnose. Does anyone know of some good info on Kombucha and Severe gas? Is it common, does it subside, are some people just able to dtink it cause of the gas? that sorta info. I like the idea of using it based on what the FDA says about whats in it. Sounds like it could realy help my bowel system. anywho thanks everyone for your help. Peace; LSB Quote
Guest guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 Gas is a sign that you are detoxing; it usually subsides in a week or two. Often your waste will have an offensive odor for a week or two as well. Just have a tablespoon of the tea mixed in water with meals, and be sure to drink lots of water. Is it possible that you are dehydrated? See www.watercure2.com The KT may be provoking the Jarisch-Herxheimer Effect, too. KT is an antibiotic. The JHE is a medically known response to antibiotic. When you take an antibiotic, the infection dies and puts out toxins as it dies. The toxins make you temporarily sicker even though it is a healing crisis. " Herxing " or the Herxheimer Effect is now a slang term in the alternative medical community for a healing crisis followed by an improvement. Guest guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 It might be a good idea to do a colon cleanse and get yourself going with some really good probiotics to improve the balance of favorable bacteria in your gut. I don't have anywhere near your problems, and I had to do the above before my liver would tolerate *any* KT. I would be extremely careful with anything that is a strong system-wide detoxifier. If your kidneys don't work, all the toxins released into circulation that aren't removed by the liver (and many must be removed by the kidneys) will just float around until your next treatment. Also, I would think that one in your situation would do best consuming an almost perfect diet -- all whole foods with lots of fruits and vegetables, little to no sugar, no chemicals, especially no chemical/artificial sweeteners and no trans fats. As far as the gut toxicity issue is concerned -- if you have an intestinal tract with an excess of harmful bacteria and yeast (and it sounds as if that might be true for you), they will be releasing serious toxins that are then absorbed into your system, causing even more problems. Guest guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 That is correct. It is both probiotic and antibiotic. It is also antifungal and antiviral. Guest guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 Hi, While Kombucha is very helpful for many people with digestive problems the fact that it is causing you severe gas indicates a problem I would not ignore. You can try cutting back on the amount of Kombucha you are drinking, some people have to start with 1 tablespoon in plain water. It also might help if you brew your Kombucha past the sugar sweet stage. If you have Candida sugar in any form can make it worse. Seems like you will neeed to experiment to see what works for you. Take it slowly and chances are things will work out well. There is however, the problem that Kombucha eliminates toxins through the kidneys and if your kidneys are not functioning well I would talk to my doctor about whether or not it is safe for you to drink Kombucha. Maybe the dialysis takes care of that but I really don't know. Peace, Love and Harmony, Bev > > My kidney's do not work at all. There is nothing chinese medicine can > do to change that. Guest guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 Oh. So does this mean a person who drinks KT regularly won't get infections? CMR wrote: That is correct. Guest guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 Yes, until you build up a tolerance to KT. Then it won't work until you take a rest from it. Google Gaia Research and KT. The Germans and Russians have done quite a lot of research demonstrating what I just said is true. Re: drinking Kombucha causes me severe gas >> >> >>> >>> My kidney's do not work at all.
