Guest guest
I don't sprout buckwheat, but do sunflower seeds. Black sunflowers I sprout in flat trays with soil.hulled seeds in an easy sprout. marion
Guest guest
Hi Jane -- 1. Trays/soil -- tried a couple of times with wheatgrass and sunflowers. Not to my preference due to maintenance/waste/space needs, plus a bit too much crop for the two of us. Sunflowers did taste better this way, though. 2. Jars -- too hard to get moisture out. Pain to drain. Insufficient counter space. Cheap though. 3. Hemp bags -- have one, used twice, just don't have a place for hanging/dripping it. (Did make own out of gauze and rubber bands once to prove a point -- used it in a nice hotel in Chicago to sprout Madison Mix. Fun!) 4. Commercial sprouters -- Main one now is EasyGreen auto sprouter, love it, I use and refill continuously. If you're just starting, don't consider purchase of an autosprouter until you've tried manual sprouters and know that you love love love sprouting and will truly use it, otherwise you'll just have a spendy dustcollecter. (Good for wheatgrass and sunflowers; can use soil if desired. There can be mold issue even in the autosprouters, if the seeds are packed too tightly. Occurs more in summer.) 5. Manuals -- EasySprout -- I have 4 -- BEST OPTION for new/occasional sproutfolks, easy to use, clean, store, and inexpensive. Have also made multiple DIY sprouters out of takeout containers, plastic soup supermarket containers, salad clamshells. Hope that helps a bit.
