Guest guest Posted October 20, 2005 Report Share Posted October 20, 2005 I have heard of a lot of people who get rid of the eczema when they figure out what foods they are intolerant of. Two of my kids have gotten it and it was food for both. My ASD son it was the gluten and casien and my daughter is was oatmeal. Please research Elidel. The way it works is by suppressing the immune system so whatever the child is intolerant of can't cause a reaction. This is so very dangerous. It has a black box warning for kids under two because of a serious increase in cancer. The idea of them marketing a drug that is definitely supressing the immune system of children and letting their bodies develop cancer scares me tremendously!!! I would consider a blood test to see what intolerances the child had and either eliminate the foods, give good digestive enzymes or both. My son and daughter both take Houston's enzymes and we don't have that issue anymore. My son still can't really do dairy but he can eat gluten and my daughter can have oatmeal without eczema now. Steroid therapy is one thing but suppressing the immune system has to have major ramifications that are still unknown. We did an allergy elimination diet to discover most of the problem foods, but needed to do a blood test from Great Plains Laboratory (looking at IgG reactions) to figure out that eggs were a problem too. She has been eczema free since then - no meds. And on a positive note that might encourage your friend, we have been able to add back all the foods except one - wheat, without any reactions. Of course, that took 2 1/2 years of having the foods removed while using enzymes and probiotics to heal her gut. Hope this helps. Vicki, As your son's metals moving in his system, it is logical for him to show sudden and new symptoms related to metals. I get eczema from eye makeup in my eyelids, including hypoallergenic and/or and all natural make-up. So, It must be allergies. I am also metal toxic so am developing strange allergies all the time. , For your daughter, look at all the new exposures not just food but other things such as soap, cream, the fragrance you wear, new air freshener, new school bag or a new Pajama( which usually are soaked in toxic antimony as a fire retardant), any contact with allergen can cause eczema. Keeping a food journal or making a mental note if you have a good memory is always helpful. Eczema is commonly caused by food intolerances. " Chicken skin " , which frequently happens on the backs of the arms, can be caused by EFA deficiency [and several other things]. Since you equate removing the EFA with the problem, maybe it is chicken skin and not eczema? Anyway, try adding back the EFA, see if that helps. Guest guest Posted February 7, 2006 Report Share Posted February 7, 2006 Hi Heidi, Well my daughter doesn't have eczema her head did get really itchy after she got her helmet and our ortho just suggested that we use that aveeno baby wash with oatmeal and then also to put hydrocortizone (sp ) cream on and I also bought the aveeno brand of the cream. That stuff worked for Isabelle and she hasn't had a rash or anything since we started using it. Hope that maybe helps. Lucky for me, Braden likes to keep his hands in his mouth full time so I don't have to worry about a hand slipping up to his head. My pediatrician recommended making this a two man job. One parent watching his hands at all times and the other washing. The good news is that once it clears up, you only have to use it twice a week. Repeat the sequence again as necessary. Only use OTC cortizone on the face, Rx stuff can be used in other places (except groin, I think).
