Mother says daddy is " much worse " and being less > cooperative. Hi , mum was prescribed Resperidol to quell the voices in her head. It didn't work. It made her more depressed and more up and down in mood. I found out here that Respedidol is not really a good drug for people with LBD, but is often prescribed because it is one of the popular anti-psychotic drugs today. Mum is on serequel (?) now and, while still experiencing the voices, is not as depressed and more able to be on an even lucid keel for the most part. > In addition, does anyone have any experience with " selective " > confusion or forgetfulness? As for the above, mum will insist that she has never known someone or been somewhere when in fact the person refered to and the place mentioned were both experiences that she enjoyed immensely in years past and reflected on often over the years. Mum also insists that my sister is like two different people, the evil mean one who is the bane of her existance (a la the crew member sister) and the " real " one who confuses mum because she is so caring and helpful (which is how my sister really is). Mum has also display the selective memory thing at the doctors office which is really hard to deal with. She will be truly upset by something that happened with the crew, but when we get to the doctor, she is looking at us like we are insane for mentioning such an occurance. Fortunatly, we are working with a very good gerentologist who understands the dememtia aspect and the family doc is in the loop as well. Apparently it is not uncommon for LBD patients to have this selective memory thing happen. It does make it that much more challenging to deal with, both for the caregiver and the person with LBD. Its like a balancing act, and its exhausting! I've prattled on long enough. I hope I was able to help in some way. Hang in there and keep in touch. . Guest guest
Sorry, I forgot to mention the medication . My mum is on Seroquel and she is currently residing at Whitby Mental Health Centre in Ontario, Canada. She crashed once on this medication but her doctor at the centre is monitoring her very closely and increasing the dosage slowly. Although her hallucinations are still very much there, they do not seem to scare her or bother her as much. The medication makes her a little less stressed but more " out of it " . Seroquel is definitely an anti-psychotic and should be monitored closely, closely, closely. Annette catclay54 wrote: Hi folks, Haven't written for a little while, but I've been following along. News from the parental front. My father has recently been prescribed Risperdal. The dr office told me it's for sleep problems, but the info I found told me it's an anti-psychotic. Anyone have any info about this with LBD? Mother says daddy is " much worse " and being less cooperative. In addition, does anyone have any experience with " selective " confusion or forgetfulness? My father can neatly recite the names of all the children, along with pertinent info about each (address, phone etc), but almost consistently cannot remember who my mother is. He will ask her constantly who she is. Now she lives with him and we don't, of course. His dr doesn't believe that this is " real " memory problems, but rather a demonstration of daddy's anger towards mother. I'm really interested in what others have experienced. Welcome to LBDcaregivers.
Guest guest
ohhhh selective episdoes. memory, hearing, anythung, dad does that quite well. and in my reading of lbd several places it says that the memory fluctuations are enough to make some family members doubt that there is somethuing wrong with the patient. so this is very common dad has been 'accused ' of tryng to get attention and many doctors said dad was stressed adn that was why he had unexplained falls. and paranoid hallucinations. now we know what lbd is all about and understand what dad wasnt in his mind and an act to get attention. the evil lbd such an evil disease that destroys people in ways that are only supposed to be in nightmares. sigh, sharon m a smile a day keeps the meanies away!!! laughter is a breath of fresh air! Guest guest
Hi Can't help with info on Risperdal - didn't have experience of that one but someone here will have for sure. As for the 'selective' memory and cognition thing .... most definitely part of the LBD mystery. My dad could be almost 'normal' one minute and completely ridiculous the next! I used to feel he was deliberately humiliating me in front of the doctors sometimes. I'd give my account of his difficulties and explain the problems and my dad would then promptly contradict everything I'd said! I used to feel he turned it on and off ... but in the end I understood that it was one of the crazy, stupid, unpredictable symptoms of this monster. It's doesn't make sense! Hang in there Sally x
