Hi I was wondering if anyone could tell me if Abilify is an ok

medication for LBD? My aunt was started on this, and she seems to do

pretty good, but I would like to know if in the long run if it's

suppose to be a LBD medication.......much thanks....Beth

Beth,

My father has been on Abilify for over a year now and has done very

well. I feel it was one of the drugs that has turned him around.

He was running off and hallucinating wildly before that. Hope it

works for your aunt as well as it has my father.

Hi Donna,

Thank you for emailing can you tell me the dosage that your dad is up

too? My aunt started on it this past January, and did very well on 15mg,

and then they didn't increase it, and so then the hallucinating started

again. So they took it off of her, and told us to restart it this past

week, because we told the Dr. that she did so well, and couldn't figure

out why they didn't increase it. I mean I think that to do any good a

medicine needs to be increased as it does wear off when the body gets use

to a certain amount. I sure hope this time that the Dr. increases it a

little more to see if she still does as well. It even helped her rls,

and that was a blessing by itself, because she suffers severely with

that. Thank you again.....much love, Beth

Beth,

My dad has not had to have an increase. He was started on 15mg and

has done well there, so no need to increase. However, you must be

able to take more because they come in 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30mg

tablets. I wasn't able to locate my Drug Handbook to look it up.

If I think about it I will look it up when I get to work today.

Best of luck to you and your Aunt. Like I said, Abilify has been

great for my dad. My dad doesn't seem to struggle with rls but does

have REM sleep behavior disorder, another of the LBD demons! We

have been having some sleepless nights over this lately. Thankfully

the past night or 2 he has finally crashed! I enjoyed the sleep

last night, I crashed too!!

Hugs,

Donna P.

Hi Donna,

Thank you again for the quick response, well I guess I spoke to soon the

Abilify isn't helping her rls anymore the pain and burning is very

intense even with the Abilify now. The 15mg did great for about 5 months

it was like a miracle she was sleeping better, and so I got to rest as

well. I honestly can't remember what it was like to sleep a whole night

since it has been so long....usually my aunt is up more then she is

down....so we are like yo-yo-s. I quit my job 3 years ago, because the

stress of doing both was just too much, and now I don't know how I held a

job for as long as I did. Abilify was the first medication that seem to

help her at all, and I thought it was a God send. She started on Sinemet

7 years ago, for her rls, and then they said she had the beginnings of

Parkinsons disease, because she became very tired all the time. Sinemet

in the long run made the rls worse, and the only way the Sinemet helped

was the Drs. increased it more, and periods in between were shortened,

and then the panic attacks came. But this was bad as she had terrible

withdrawal, and also panic attacks were still horrible that was a living

nightmare for a few years. When i look back, I don't know how I even

lived thru each day, many a time I thought of the easy way out for

myself, because it got too much. My aunt has 9 brothers, and sisters

with no help from any, and maybe one will call after a month or two has

past. It's very sad to think you have all that family and no help.....my

aunt along with my grandparents raised me, so I have been close to her

all my life. My grandmother had a brain tumor and my aunt took care of

her till she died, and then she also took care of my grandfather until he

died. She got little help from her siblings then as well......it doesn't

seem fair she sacrificed for her mom & dad, and then she got this

horrible life taking disease....while her family members all do their own

thing, with not a compassionate thought of her......I thank God that I'm

not heartless, but sometimes I wished I was.....but then I think where

would she have been! I helped as much as I could with my grandparents as

I was in high school when my grandmother had her brain tumor. Well I

have to go she needs me, sorry for the ramble on......just needed to vent

a lot I guess......thanks again.....much love, Beth
