This link is only for the brave at heart. Honestly. I got quite angry when I went on a trek for auto immune diseases and family history. There are many links like this to support this train of thought. This link offers a detailed list of Auto Immune diseases..... and links them to routine vaccines. This is pretty controversial so PLEASE don't shoot the messenger. This was just an important link I ran across. I'm sure this whill stimulate discussion but that was not my intention. I was just researching to answer the diabetes question. http://www.whale.to/vaccines/autoimmune1.htm

Here are some others. http://www.vaccines.net/autoimmu.htm

This one is from the USA government and it basically says "Don't panic, but there might be something to this autoimmune thing and vaccines." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=pubmed & dopt=Abstract & list_uids=15196997 & itool=iconabstr

There are lots more but I want off the topic for now. LOL It's irritating me. LOL

Liz,

Last August my 6 yr old nephew was DX w/Type 1 Diabetes. I went with my sister to Kosair Childrens Hospital in Louisville to get educated on this disease and we were both stunned to learn that Type 1 is autoimmune. Through the years I have read theories that autoimmune diseases can run in families, but not always the same disease. I have an aunt with Lupus and a cousin with Rheumatoid Arthritis and now a nephew with Type 1 diabetes. Maybe the rest of the group can research their family histories about this because I personally believe that there may be something to this...

Any thoughts on this from anyone?

This is the way i have always belived it as far as conncetions with vaccines. first of all i feel that the auoimmune diseases run in families, thus a person can have a mutated gene or just a defected one that may cause stills, ra, lupus, or anything at some point in their life, maybe the gene never gets switched on.

But for some the gene does get switched on and we have the disease, now what is the trigger. for me i feel that viruses and vaccines are often the trigger for the onset of the disease.

am i making sense here?

basically you are probably already predisposedto develop an antoimmune disease, it's there lurking, something sets it off like a virus, vaccine, etc..

most everyone can find someone in their family history who has some type of autoimmune disease.

and then alot of us at our onset had a bad cold/virus that didnt go away and then our joints chimed in and then the rashes, fevers, etc. for others they were healthy but had a vaccine then began their problems. but i believ e that all of us were already predisoposed to develop this anyway, that is why some people take vaccines with no problems.. do yall follow what im trying to say

I also may have this as a result of a vaccine. I was in Basic Training in Ft Benning, Ga in June of 1990. I received a ton a shots and was in the hospital 4 or 5 days later with real high fevers (104+) , uncontrollable chills, sore throat, etc. I also was thought to have hypo-thermia a number of times as I would get uncontrollable chills whenever I went from hot to cold, such as during a road march with 90 degree + heat and a sudden rainstorm and drop in temp would make me totally immobile.

I have been waiting for my military medical records for almost 6 months. I also have two Senators working for me to get these records, as my PCP wants them. I have had zero response from the military, save for the military records I was sent from the PA National Guard. They don't have the medical records though, they are supposed to be in St Louis.

The more I think about the whole ordeal, the more this makes sense. I was always a very physically active individual, and never felt limited to what I could do. I have always felt "tight" since 1990 or so, in the sense that my muscles and joints would be sore. I always attributed this to working out and such, but don't ever recall having that sort of problem before I went to Ft Benning.

If I ever do get the records, I will greatly appreciate these links!

Kirk.

P.S. I haven't been very active on the list of late as I am not feeling too well and am in a rotten mood most of the time. I can't imagine a worse year for myself, and pray it can't get worse.

I have to agree that we are all predisposed to getting RA,AOSD, and lupus. I have already known that my grandma and great grandma on my father's family both had RA. The only reason we figured out great grandma was because her grandson, remember her looking old and being old before her time. When I took this information to my RD he told me there is the reason I got AOSD to begin with as a possible link. He said he knew that something triggers it but not sure of what. Just got to keep plugging along and hope that they find reason then a cure to cure it all.
