Guest guest
I try to do this couple years ago. I was told that you can claim with your medical expenses and your medical expenses need to be more then $7,000.00. My medical expenses was not even close to that so we did not claim my son especial food for this reason. You are right you can claim the difference from the especial need foods to the regular food. You can not claim supplements. Take Care!! Simon, "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. Does anyone know where you enter the amount that we spend on special foods for Will? I know that you can only use the difference between the item and what the normal item costs but not sure where to enter it. Also, Can you claim Dietary supplements? Thanks!! I am not sure what is deductible and what is not. If anyone has any good information on tax deductions for special needs children, I would really appreciate it! Also, if anyone knows of a good accountant in the Acworth/Kennesaw area that knows the tax laws for families of special needs children, that would be absolutely wonderful! Thank you SO much and Happy Holidays :-) e
Guest guest
You can include all un-reimbursed medical expenses, any equipment you purchase recommend by a doctor, mileage to and from medical appts, supplements if prescribed for a medical condition. In regards to foods you can only deduct the difference between what a normal food item cost and what the GFCF item cost. (ex: if a regular loaf of bread is $1 and a GFCF loaf is $4 you can only deduct $3. Be careful that you keep all documentation to back this up). Also, you will only be able to deduct amounts over 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. ---- e wrote: > Hi everyone, > > With tax season slowly creeping up on us, I was trying to figure out what the deductions would be for therapy, biomed and gfcfsf food for our 2009 tax returns. Guest guest
Keep in mind that whatever is held out of your paycheck for insurance can also be included in that figure. Guest guest
Yes, but only if it is deducted after tax. If it is a pretax section 125 it has already been excluded from your income and will not be included in box 1, 3 or 5 on your W-2.Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®Date: Thu, 17 Dec 2009 20:17:22 -0500To: <autism-georgia >Subject: Re: Taxes Keep in mind that whatever is held out of your paycheck for insurance can also be included in that figure.ASimon wrote:> >> Hi,> I try to do that couple years ago.I keep all the receipt but when I > went to file my taxes I was told that the expenses had to be over > seven thousand dolores to be file as medical bills.Since all I had was > about a thousand I was not able to include that on my taxes.> This was two years ago.> Good Luck, >> /A.Simon, / > " I know God promises not to give me more than I can handle.> I just wish he didn't trust me so much. Guest guest
On the subject of taxes and what is deductible ..... do not forget to include your mileage to and from all doctor's appointments and therapy appointments. This amount really adds up in our family . Also, anything your doctor writes on a prescription pad as medically necessary to assist the condition is tax deductible .... we were able to deduct our Wii Game due to my son's visual perceptual needs.
