This is a situation in which it is clear you should a) drink your KT with food, and/or dilute it with water. You'll build up an ability to handle stronger KT on an empty stomach. But it sounds like your digestion needs to be built up first, which KT excels at btw. --V ~~~ There is no way to peace; peace is the way ~~~~ --A.J. Muste Quote

Hi Teddi, 's advice is very good and will probably get you where you want to be with your stomach. If you really need something else, a very good natural antacid is almond, the nut, I mean. Just chew a few almonds thoroughly the way they come out of the packet (whole and with the brown inner skin still on). This ought to fix the problem if it's really bad. Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I sometimes had heartburn when I first started drinking KT - so I drank it right after a meal (as a digestive) and that helped. Mind you, I'd had a history of daily/nightly heartburn, taking prescription meds for it (that actually are really bad for the body as they affect stomach acid production). Had tried the ACV and other natural suggestions. I also made dietary changes which have helped tremendously. - The Metabolicy Typing Diet by Wolcott and Trish Fahey. To treat the heartburn (I'd tried the KT for 3 months, with slight improvement) I used D-Limonene for over a month (now take it as needed), got off the prescription meds completely. D-Limonene has been researched to help heal the issue (whereas OTC & presc. meds mask symptoms and actually cause further problems...) Enzymatic Therapy has a site w/info on heartburn and many other topics. (Solaray D-Limonene worked just as well for me.) All the best to you! Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I'm not recommending this as a long term solution but I discovered Redmond Clay, sold by the same people that sell Redmond Salt, was an incredible solution for heartburn. I picked some up at the WAP conference. It can be used externally and also mixed with water for digestive problems. I took it for gut pain and found out by accident that my heartburn vanished. They say some people take it everyday as a supplement but I wasn't sure that made sense for me because they think it might work by attracting/absorbing bacteria and carrying it out of your system. But for an occasional solution it is so much better/safer than the Pepsid AC etc. that I had been using. I'm also looking forward to trying raw almonds that another poster had mentioned. Sharon Quote

Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 This one may sound odd, but the thing that works the very best for me and all of my friends that have tried it is to take some apple cider vinegar for heartburn. It would seem that heartburn is from too much stomach acid, but apparently it's from too little. At the first sign of heartburn I take 3 or 4 500mg vinegar capsules or a tablespoon of vinegar in water with some honey. Works every time. Regards, Dana Quote
Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Dana, That is a great tip - something so easy to try since I have that already! Thanks! Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I really want to say that if you are experiencing heartburn, you need to first establish if the cause is too much or too *little* hydrochloric acid. Most people have too little and take anti acid to alleviate a problem that does not exist and things get worse. A simple test is to take some vinegar when you experience heartburn. If it goes away, you do not produce enough hydrochloric acid. Of course if you experience heartburn after drinking kombucha on an empty stomach, you probably have too much, but not necessarily. It might just not sit well and I wold try it with or after a meal to see if it makes a difference. maria. Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Hi Sharon- You're welcome. I hope it helps. As far as KT causing heartburn, I wonder (just thinking out loud here) if it might just be part of the detoxification process being promoted by the KT. A week or two ago I had a bout of heartburn that occurred after meals for several days. I took the vinegar, which stopped the hb until the next main meal. I figured it was being caused by my " holiday eating, " but one day the vinegar cure worked and the hb hasn't come back, though I've not gotten back to my good eating habits. Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I've been reading on another list (GFCFNN) how a tiny amount of Pascalite clay is really helping some members with lots of things - reactions to foods, overall... Definitely safer than heartburn meds! Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I'd like to add that I don't think that getting an episode of heartburn after drinking KT on an empty stomach is necessarily an indication of a stomach acid problem. It could just be that the stomach is not used to the KT and needs to start slower or with a dilute form, having it with food. I don't like to ascribe " illness " to something that may just be a transient thing. A really good way to develop better digestive capacity is to begin drinking KT as a few ounces with meals, perhaps diluted with an equal amount of water (don't want to get too much water in with one's food, however). This will aid in the digestion of that meal, and begin to condition the gut to digest, absorb, and detoxify more efficiently. Remember that KT contains probiotic organisms that condition the gut. It is fully capable all by itself of improving digestion. I am certain that is the basis of its health/life giving powers. --V ~~~ There is no way to peace; peace is the way ~~~~ --A.J. Muste Quote
