What in the world is gazpacho????

It is a Latino salsa dip. It is made with tons of garlic, onion, tomatoes, salt and pepper. Very good stuff and it helps cut the cholesterol. If you don't have hair on your chest, trust me, you will. LOL. My former mother-in-law was from Spain and she introduced me to it. I thought my mouth was going to catch on fire the first time I tried it with chips. There are several variations and you can always throw your own together. I put all kinds of stuff in mine. You may get gas too. LOL, I blow my husband up out of here when I get on a gazpacho kick. He threatens to tie me up in the front yard. LOLOLOL.

Get off the red meat. That's a must. You need to concentrate on low cholesterol foods. Red meat is a big no-no. You need fish, vegatables, fruits, foods high in fiber. Very little dairy too. No eggs. It's a big adjustment, but you get used to it. I still eat red meat, but only on occassion. Then I find it upsets my tummy if I eat it. So, it's not that big a deal. There are plenty of foods to eat that are good. It beats having the old ticker give out or having your chest open for by-pass surgery.

If you want to be brave, you can get straight garlic capsules. Just be sure to have some food in your tummy. Should you belch, they will smell you for miles and you will smell yourself. I take phytomega which is a supplement. I really attribute the phytomega and change in my diet to my cholesterol lowering. Plus, I practice stress reduction techniques too and they are helpful. It's nice to be reminded of my hippie days. My husband teases me alot too.

As for whether the roids have anything to do with it, I honestly don't know. I wouldn't think so because I've never been able to stay roid free but a couple of months and then my symptoms return. I go up and down all the time with my roids. Most of the time I will stay at 5 mgs, but then there are days where I will go as high as 40mgs depending on what's going on. See I take roids not just for SD, but for my asthma & COPD. Yeah, I still smoke too. It's going to be the death of me one of these days. It's the one thing I just can't seem to give up. It always win and that really makes me mad. My real nemesis is tobacco. BUT, I still got my cholesterol down. LOL and they misdiagnosed me with lung cancer last year.

The way I see it, we only live once. You live life to its fullest and accept the consequences as you go. I thought I wouldn't ever make the concessions that I have in my life, but I have. Do I have regrets? You betcha, but I wouldn't go back through it again for a second time. Life is good. I figure if Bush can jump out of airplanes at 80, I can do it at almost 46. As long as someone is tied to me. LOL. Hope this helps.

Much love,

Terry

Jeez, death can't be much worse! (Just kidding) No red meat????????? That is like telling a kid he can never play. Man, I need some good news for a change!

I don't eat "tons" of red meat, but it is in almost every one of my favorite foods! Steak, cheese steaks with Swiss cheese and jalapenos, pasta with meat sauce and meatballs, the list can go on. I already miss beer, and would hate like hell to miss meat! I do eat a lot of vegetables, and I eat Wheaties on a regular basis, as they are the lazy husbands breakfast, lunch and dinner of champions! I do drink a lot of milk, but I thought 2% was good for you. I also eat a lot of bread and chicken (which I am sick of as it seems to be what is for dinner in my house 2-3x per week).

I like your story about being chained in the front yard.....I am still getting even with my wife, as she was "foul" during both pregnancies. I had a car that allowed the driver to "lock" the power windows, where no one but me could open or close them......I loved it when I was "ripe" and would lock the windows.........my wife almost jumped out of the car on one trip as I kept "producing" for 4 or 5 hours. I have done this to numerous friends also. The down side is my wife whacked me upside the head once and I almost got us killed! I can laugh about it now, but I didn't find it funny at the time.

Thanks for the laugh, Kirk.

Gazpacho

Hi Kirk & Terry,

I've had high cholesterol and triglycerides for years. It runs in the family. I'm normal weight and a vegan. Cheating is allowed, though, when on vacation (rare for quite sometime). I never, ever cheat with meat. Ugh! Barf! Gazpacho has meatballs in it, right? It doesn't matter, receipes can be adjusted for almost anything. Do you have a good recipe? I've taken Lipitor before. It helped a little bit. What supplements do you take?

Thanks,

Hi , is this the nice fellow and I met in Vegas last year? We met someone from Canada.

The doctor never said anything about Lipitor being a life long committment. When I don't eat any meat, dairy, or many other things, it seems pointless. My Dad is 72, the same trim weight as in College, eats well, and runs 5 miles each day. His cholesterol is still high.

Less red meat, no cheese, and lots of garlic is a very good idea. And, by the way, I used to be a big dairy fan, too. I loved it all. Milk, cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese were my favorites. None are missed.

If you are taking prednisone, that alone can increase your cholesterol and glucose.

Take care .

Peace,

Barbara
